Meds for gestational diabetes
I was given 5 days to control my numbers with diet. My numbers are all good except for 3 mornings of blood sugars in low 90s. They want to put me on medicine. One is glimepiride but the things I am reading about it do not sound good and I'm nervous. I'm worried about insulin too because of hypoglycemia I'm always on the run and my meals sometimes get pushed off. Any if you on meds? I'm nervous. I'm trying to learn what foods trigger me to go high.

I'm on glyburide to control my fasting too. My doctor only gave me a week to control it and there was nothing that I could do. She prescribed 2.5 for me, but I was nervous about going hypo so I cut the pill in half for the first two days to make sure that I was okay. After that I took the full pill and I've been fine. It brought fastings down from 96 to mid-70s consistently. It also helps with my breakfast numbers. From what I've read, insulin is actually easier to prevent going hypo since you can adjust the dose in very small increments. I wasn't given insulin as an option though.
Try not to push meals off. I'm sure you notice that it makes you feel terrible if you do. I always have a protein bar in my bag so I can eat if I need to.

Re: Meds for gestational diabetes
I am not sure if the bedtime snack is putting me over the edge. I get heartburn and 2 nights I ate some mints to try to alleviate it. For 2 nights I tried low carb protein bars so maybe they aren't good for me? Fruit def is not. Neither is wheat bread. I just worry about it crossing into the placenta

I also don't like that the diabetic counselor goes to show my numbers to a doctor and I don't even get to meet the doctor. Makes me very uncomfortable!

I tried everything for a bedtime snack and nothing worked. Ice cream, crackers with pb, apple with pb, protein bars, just a cheese stick... From what I understand it's such a miniscule amount that crosses over that it won't affect the baby. High blood sugar is the bigger problem. If you're that concerned, ask for insulin since that appears naturally in the body anyway.

Exercising after dinner could help. I always did and my morning numbers were great (low 70's) If your after dinner numbers are a little high, I would adjust my dinner and do some exercise, especially if you eat late. Some people actually need to get up and have a snack in the middle of the night because low blood sugar overnight causes it. I would try to talk to the doctor directly before going on meds if you are concerned. Maybe they will give you more time to figure it out or say you don't need it (I think my morning cutoff was 95).
ETA- you might figure it out sooner if you do some extra testing - before bed and in the middle of the night.
