metal door frames and replacing doors
We have metal door frames throughout the interior of our house. I heard that this can be a problem if you want to replace the interior doors. Is this true? Will we have to replace the door frames if we decide to change the interior doors?

You can just buy door slabs and have a contractor install them onto the metal frames.

Re: metal door frames and replacing doors
We replaced our doors using the metal door frames.
The issues we encountered were that you couldn't buy the preholed handle door because the metal frame doors had the door handle "slot" lower in the frame. We also just had to do a bit of cutting on the bottom to make it line right. Otherwise it has been successful.
My neighbor though wanted to take out the metal frames entirely. That was a headache she said and we haven't tried that.

Re: metal door frames and replacing doors
Thanks. I understand that replacing door frames is costly / time-consuming and I don't think it's something we really feel is necessary. We aren't planning to replace doors anytime soon, but it's on our list of things we'd eventually like to do...

Re: metal door frames and replacing doors
We have metal interior door frames thoughout my house. I hate them!! That said, we replaced all our interior doors with 6-panel pine doors. DH had to cut and measure each one, because there is no give (wood frames and doors expand and contract with heat and cold). While I would love to get rid of them, it's just not in the works.
