Mexican fiesta
Im hosting a surprise Mexican fiesta for my DH bday. I ought all of the decorations already, I got a piñata filled with plastic mini liqueur bottles, I'm looking into getting a mariachi band or a half hour. Now I just need to figure out the food. I don't want to cook at all. I'll buy chips and salsa and make guacamole. I want to order tacos, burritos, maybe make your own fajitas, etc... There will be about 20-25 people. Do you have any clue how much I should order? Or any suggestions for food?

Re: Mexican fiesta
I live in White Plains. I thought I was going to order from this place that delivers, but I got lunch from there yesterday and it wasn't very good. I'm going to swing by my regular taco place and see if they can cater. I just don't know how much to order.

Re: Mexican fiesta
Was the place that delivers but you didn't like Mariachi Loco? ?
If not, I would give them a try. I liked the tacos I had there, and they have catering, so they can probably help you estimate how many platters for the # of guests you are having.
Where is your regular taco place? (Just curious--always looking for something new.)

Re: Mexican fiesta
Fajitas are a great choice. Chicken and Beef? Street Tacos are nice too, like smaller tacos usually just diced meat or chicken, sauted in spice or sauce. Served on mini tortillas. Spanish Rice Beans (tho I hate beans) Chips, salsa, queso, guac Maybe some cut up bite size churros for dessert or pan de dulce (Sweet bread) empanadas? Flan?
How Fiesta are you going? confetti eggs? Little mexican hats? Margaritas ?
haha

Yes, Mariachi Loco is what I was going to do. The tacos were ok, but the fajita, mini churri and quesadilla were not good at all. The place we normally get from is called La Puebla kind of near the White Plains Stop & Shop. It's kind of a whole in the wall, but they make the best tacos.

I thnk I'm gong pretty fiesta. I have bright Mexican striped table cloths, five foot tall mariachi guys to hang on the wall, sangria, margheritas, Mexican beers, Mexican hats for decoration, a piñata, etc... I'm trying to get a mariachi guy if I can afford it.

Mexican fiesta
Any place that caters should be able to tell you how much food.

Thanks-- my husband works near there, I will tell him to check it out. Too bad about mariachi loco--I have only tried the tacos. La Puebla might be able to do it, even if they don't advertise a catering menu.

Re: Mexican fiesta
I can't help with the amount, but you have to post pics!! This is such a cute idea!
My only advice is if you are getting lots of types of things like tacos, fajitas, etc just make sure you get enough so everyone can try at least one. Maybe 1.5-2 per person. That might be overkill but those combo platters at Mexican restaurants are my favorite, where you get to try a little of everything.

Didn't get to try it, but a Mexican place called Vega opened up over a year ago in Hartsdale on Hartsdale Avenue. It may be worth looking into.
