i don't understand the green shoes or the green gloves
The dress is more of a celadon (light yellow-green color, so the green gloves make more sense. I just think the shoes & gloves should have been the same greens. The best pictures are on the NY Times site. I think it looks nice here, and I like that she is a little sparkly.
It's flash, so I can't post them, but here is the LINK
ETA--The designer refers to the dress color as lemon-grass yellow.

Ahh, in these pictures, you can see how the green really does match!

Re: Michelle Obama
I like her outfit though I think it could have been tailored a little more to hug her curves. Nothing drastic, but just to give the coat a little more shape.
I like the color a lot and think it looks really nice on her.
At first I wasn't a fan of the gloves and shoes, but in the Times pictures they looked better. I'm still not completely convinced about them though...
I think she's an attractive woman who for the most part dresses very well.
As for LB - she looked fabulous as usual...even in a gray suit. She's a classy lady.

Re: Michelle Obama
I really didn't like the outfit choice at all - and I'm the first one to say if something looks nice regardless of how I feel politically. The cut of the outfit was ALL wrong - did not flatter and where it hit her on the leg was terrible. I liked the color of the outfit but is she kidding with those green shoes?? Terrible! I said it on celebrity and I'll say it again - not a good choice! She is really tall that I'm just noticing now seeing her next to Fmr Pres Bushy -- and I actually liked Laura's outfit. The hem hit her in just the right spot, the fit was perfect, the color was pretty on her -- it was everything Michelle's outfit wasn't in terms of fit. JMHO!

Re: Michelle Obama
I personally think it looks like she got dressed with her eyes closed.
The coat, the color, the glitter of the fabric, and the shoes are just awful. Horrific.
Reminds me of a Halloween costume IMO.

She honestly looks like she's pregnant in some of these pictures, though... The dress shape is NOT flattering...

I'm the opposite. I love it. She is a stunning woman. I think Laura Bush's suit is quite drab.
I thought she looked good.
and I think Laura Bush must be part snowman!!!! where was her coat.
I do love her though. she was a nice first lady.

ITA, and they keep calling her a fashion icon in the news, and talking about her style... hopefully the best is yet to come.

Me too! I also can't stand the term "fashio icon"... the media throws this term around soo much it means nothing in my mind.

Re: Michelle Obama
love Michelle's outfit.... very classy IMO... the outfit she wore that I didn't like was that odd red and black dress (election night).
By the way.... Welcome Michelle Obama to your new position as first lady! you once were a lawyer/professional, now you're reduced to wardrobe critiques on a chat site

I think she looks quite elegant. I do agree about the green accessories but she knows how to wear outfits well.

Re: Michelle Obama
I just read that it was $1500 - she should have stuck to JCrew - I know she is trying to be different, but sometimes different doesn't look so good!

she's beautiful??
and this has nothing to do with me liking her or not I was just thinking that really? I know this will make some people want attack me but IMO she is not a good looking woman at all , I don't find her even slightly attractive. And as you said this has nothing to do with me liking her or not. I guess it's true what they say : "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and really hating that yellow/gold dress, not a good look for her.

Laura Bush is the outgoing first lady - i don't think she should be wearing something as "dazzling" as Michelle.

my thoughts exactly don't think she is attractive AT ALL and her dress is horrendous.
