Re: Might turn controversial
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm hard one lee
i am on the fence really
but IMO a lot of animal testing done is unnecessary and i really don't see how testing on them could really compare to a human...

Re: Might turn controversial
I dont like it, but if thats the "only" solution there is for a positive thing like a cure for cancer than I guess I would have to understand and believe in my heart it is for a good cause.

For cosmetic purposes - absolutely not.
For medical purposes, and within strict guidelines of the how's and why's, yes, I would agree with it. It's an awful thing to think about happening but in the end, if they are able to cure a disease that has been killing people, it's worth it.

yup!
We eat animals to survive, right? So why is using animals to find medicine or cures for diseases immoral? Wouldn't that be preserving human life as well?

I think what can be immoral is the "way" the testing is done and the "way" the animal is treated.

For cosmetic purposes - definitely not! I don't buy any products that test on animals...DH, otoh, is another story.
I am on the fence about medical testing. I have read info supporting both sides and I honestly don't see the purpose or the benefit of animal testing...especially when there are other means of more accurate testing available. That said, I am not 100% on either.

We eat animals to survive, right? Not everyone eats animals - and we certainly don't need them to survive.

Re: Might turn controversial
Personally I am completely against it !!! For any reason ...I mean how is a rabitt organ similar to mine .. so I think we should take humans who are in prison for multiple consectutive life terms ... and use them We get answers and we save money not having to house them !

sorry, but i have a completely unrelated fact here! I just wrote a huge paper on capital punishment.... On execution day alone, the cost is equal to what it would cost to house a prisoner for 40-50 years. Add in the cost of appeals, special needs, etc., and execution is actually MORE costly than life in prison! I didn't know that....but I STILL agree w/ capital punishment.

Im not for it either but you'd be surprised how the "function" of the rabbits or any animals organs are to ours.

I think that is why unfortunately animals are the target. their organs do the same thing as ours just in another capacity. I know it *****, I hate to see an animal hurt or hear/see their pain.

Re: Might turn controversial
did you ever see the HBO movie...I think it was called "The Hands That God Made" It was based on a true story...there were testing a surgical procedure to help "Blue Babies".
In scenerios like this...I'm grateful that we are able to find cures and procedures to help humans....
but on the flip side...a few years ago a dog food brand...Euakanuba...(sorry about spelling) was testing animals unnecessarily...this is Unaceptable to me.

Ok I see why they are the target but it kills me they have no say they are tortured unmercifully .. my idea would be not to use them and use LIFE TERM prisoners

I feel that medecine has come a LONG way and thanks to all the research they've done. Which I'm sure most has been resercahed on animals. I do feel bad for them but honestly if one of my loved ones was dying & a medication was administered to them(that was researched on animals) then thanks to those animals for providing a life saving treatment that would save my loved ones life. IMO

Re: Might turn controversial
Has anyone thought maybe its their diet too? that thier organs are "cleaner" than ours? Hmm. I like the prisoner idea but I wonder how accurate the testing would be with damaged ( drugs/abuse to the body) would be. animals are defenseless, I agree. its just another sad part of the world.

not sure...maybe with all the technology available today they can start simulating outcomes...but I'm not sure if we are actually there yet in the terms of technology...or that every human factor can be acounted for....although in theory it is the way I would like to see testing go in the future
