did you ever see the HBO movie...I think it was called "The Hands That God Made" It was based on a true story...there were testing a surgical procedure to help "Blue Babies".
In scenerios like this...I'm grateful that we are able to find cures and procedures to help humans....
but on the flip side...a few years ago a dog food brand...Euakanuba...(sorry about spelling) was testing animals unnecessarily...this is Unaceptable to me.
I see your point with the blue baby scenario however can't we find another way ???
not sure...maybe with all the technology available today they can start simulating outcomes...but I'm not sure if we are actually there yet in the terms of technology...or that every human factor can be acounted for....although in theory it is the way I would like to see testing go in the future
I hope soemtimes I go on the peta website and watch the videos that people do IT IS HORIFYING ......
Oh god I couldnt watch that, it hurts me enough just to watch that show on animal planet where the cops go and rescue badly injured animals.

Personally I am completely against it !!! For any reason ...I mean how is a rabitt organ similar to mine .. so I think we should take humans who are in prison for multiple consectutive life terms ... and use them We get answers and we save money not having to house them !
sorry, but i have a completely unrelated fact here! I just wrote a huge paper on capital punishment.... On execution day alone, the cost is equal to what it would cost to house a prisoner for 40-50 years. Add in the cost of appeals, special needs, etc., and execution is actually MORE costly than life in prison! I didn't know that....but I STILL agree w/ capital punishment.
Hey, I have a better idea then...let's use the death row prisoners as substitutes for animals regarding testing. Less animals are killed and we reduce the surplus prison population...problem solved (waiting for the flames to ignite).

Re: Might turn controversial
My girlfriend is a scientist in syosset hospital and they do animal testing, from what she has said they are very far from finding anyother ways to test for cures, there they test DRUGS- that the pharmacutical companys provide!!!! I wish Holistic medicine would come forth- back in the day they didnt have all these meds and they survived and lived long??????

Re: Might turn controversial
I think if 'we" as humans made smarter decisions with our lifestyles- no fast food, limit the junk food, exercised- Lived HEALTHIER lifestyles, I bet we wouldnt need all these damn cures so that there would be very little testing!!!

Re: Might turn controversial
I dont know to be honest, I have mixed feelings for and against.
Many cures or hope for cures are possible because of animal testing and that fact cannot be ignored, yet I have seen the videos as well and I feel strongly that animals should not be abused or tortured, and a lot of testing is torture even if not the ultimate goal.
Its so hard and a very moral thing, and I still do not know one way or another how I feel, since I know if I had a very sick child lets say, I would say test on them, test on ME for that matter, but because I dont and the situations involving it dont hit too close to home for me, I sadly have the luxury of ignoring it even though it bothers me.
Many huge organizations test on animals, do animal research, The March of Dimes is a leader in using Animals for research, yet Im sure many many people afflicted with MD were helped by the research.
I Think that testing needs to be strictly enforced, controlled if it exists to minimize the torture aspect of it if thats the best we can hope for.
I eat meat so I cannot say Im 100% animal rights....and animals are very much tortured before they are slaughtered for food consumption, so I would be a big time hypocrite if I said I was completly against it.
I think its a personal choice/decision and I respect both sides of the argument for their views..

what I don't know won't upset me. I know it has to be done... But if they wanted to test animals... test prisoners...

Re: Might turn controversial
Semi off topie about the prisoners...
Many prisons DO do testing on Prisoners, but with their consent. Its not well known. It was a big thing back in the 70's and still occurs. They would get a reduced sentance, or monetary compensation. THAT part I dont agree neccesarily with , but I know my Uncles first wife..her 1st husband was in jail for Robbery and assault. They offered him 3 years off his sentance to participate in a trial....He was literally given something very similair to Hodgkins disease and med's were tested on him. He ended up dying from it before getting out. It was his choice though. I thought that was very interesting when I found out about it.
