Re: milk/protein allergy question....

My son had a milk protein allergy and they didn't help...I believe they do have milk protein in them. He had to go on Neocate which is a prescription only formula...it worked wonders....it was like he was a different baby on it!

Re: milk/protein allergy question....

These products work by hydrolysing the milk proteins, making them not detectable. In very rare (1%) of cases, the proteins can be detected and allergic response presents an amino acid product is the next step.

In my personal opinon, nutramingen is a far superior product for milk pro allergy, especially the one with probitoics (nutramigen w/enflora lgg). The probiotics help to heal the gut that was damaged by the allergen. Also, Allimentums second ingredient is table sugar, unlke nutramigen. The issue with this is that sucrase is the first enzyme that gets removed from the intestinal boarder so sucrose can not be digested. It ferments and makes the situation even worse. It also contains MCT oil, which changes the fatty acid profile making it unlike breast milk.
But the main reason why I do not recommend Allimentum to any of my patients is that they are the only formula to not contain proper DHA levels of .2% and above (as recommended by ADA, NIH, EU, WHO) Nutramigen has .3%, Allimentum .15%

Anyway..that is my clinical opinion. Stick with nutramigen and if you can deal with powder, go with the enflora lgg.
