Minimum Wage Effects on Society
Read this
If you are prioritizing your own ego - the need for you to feel, for a brief moment, better than the person making your burger or bagging your groceries - is more important to you than benefiting society in all these ways, it’s time to self reflect.
“But what about me?!”
This is the exact way the Republican Party controls you and gets you to vote against your own self interests. By making the person who makes 60k think that it’s the person making 20k that is the problem, it allows you to overlook how Jeff and others nearly doubled their wealth during this pandemic. All while failing to provide adequate sick time and PPE to people working in distribution centers, etc. (Jeff and amazon are only one example).
Trump tax cuts benefited the 1%. Trump himself pays $750 one year and nothing the other 10.
The kid flipping your burger is such a ridiculously small and insignificant portion of the issue. Only 24% of people earning min wage are teenagers. We are taking about the other 76%.
I do not want my teenage children to be exploited so the Walmart family can earn more profit. Pay a fair wage.
If a job requires a living, breathing human to do it (no matter how easy) then the company must pay for that human to remain living & breathing (a livable wage)
People with full time jobs should not need welfare. Don’t reduce welfare, force companies to stop exploitation.
Who earns min wage
When you vote against min wage, you vote in favor of corporate exploitation.

Minimum Wage Effects on Society
Maybe we also need to look into why some areas, specifically Long Island are so expensive.
Of course when you are paying $800-$1,000 a month in property taxes minimum wage isn’t going work.
When you want to do anything “fun” with you family it’s going to cost you to go to a county, state, town, village park or beach ....on top of those taxes you are paying.
Taxes to own a vehicle.
Let’s look a little closer as to WHY it costs so much before we raise minimum wage.

Well for one our governor just got a $25,000 raise. Most, if they even get a raise get 3%. We need to start at the top and honestly, what are we paying such high taxes when I can live someplace and have more things to do because of the weather and pay $1,000 for taxes, not $8,000 and be stuck in my house.

Desirable places to live cost more, particularly areas that have close proximity to big cities. People will pay for better schools, more conveniences, etc. While cost of living in some areas can be high, minimum wage really hasn't kept pace with COL increases and inflation over the years.

Thanks. Eventually we will leave as life is so much better in other places and we know so many who have left and don’t have to deal with these issues and if the minimum wage will be at least $15, easier to make more money in a lower COL area. The food is missed the most though I hear all the time lol.

So you see no problem with a homeowner in Brentwood paying $7000 in property taxes. Holbrook just saw a huge increase.....$12,000 a year to live in Holbrook??
I’m not talking Lloyd harbor or glen cove. I’m talking middle class neighborhoods. THIS IS THE PROBLEM. taxes. Imagine if your property taxes were only $1500 a year. State income tax was lower. Parks and beaches were free. $15 an hour is easier. You don’t HAVE to get that second job.
WE ARE BEING TAXED TO DEATH.

I don't disagree but as long as people stay and continue to pay the high COL it will continue. New York, MA, CT, CA, etc can get away with high taxes and a high COL because people want to live there and are willing to pay. I am not saying it is right, taxes in many places are crazy, but it is how things work in this country.

So this is across the board where we live and is partially (not entirely) because of how the school districts are set up. There is no reason for the superintendent of rocky point to make 500k/year. This could be alleviated by consolidating districts and having bigger districts but that would never happen because God forbid the parents in Dix Hills have their kids in the same school as the Wyandanch kids. But you know, NIMBY so lets keep lining of the pockets of upper admins of schools who hardly do anything to begin with...

And they are not and that is why many human jobs are on the way out.

And wheel wrights, and horse drawn carriage builders, and Pony Express riders, etc, etc...
You do realize that a LOT of humans are involved in inventing, building, shipping, maintaining, etc non-humans.

A robot has already taken over a humans job at Stop and Shop. Self check out has taken over human’s jobs.

This is a crap argument. A human still has to stand there and monitor it. I see the way their beady little eyes scrutinize me to make sure I'm paying for my 5 cent bag...

First off @ beady little eyes.
Automation has been a "thing" for a long time now. It's not a new argument. So has shipping jobs overseas for pennies (exploitation of foreign labor - a whole other argument!) Using this as an argument is an excuse. It's how they convince the population to keep from wanting better. "Oh, but then there will be job cuts" They cut jobs even when they're making record profits. Believe me, if they can find a way to cut even a volunteer job they would. The goal is to cut the human factor out of the equation.
Back to self checkout. I actually try to avoid them when I can. I live in fear of anxiety of self checkout. How many times does the sensor go off after every product I try to scan and I constantly have to wave down the cashier attendant while the customers behind me stare at me with their impatient beady little eyes? lol I don't need that kind of pressure in my life. Well of course they're going to take advantage of FREE labor. If Walmart wants their customers to scan groceries they can pay them to do so.

Untrue, people have lost their jobs. I have spoken to the cashiers in Walmart and they said quite a few either were laid off or their hours cut. Target is another place that cut their employees down to almost nothing.

Well thank God for your anecdotal "research" at BOTH Walmart AND Target! The vast amount of data that you have been able to collect from those "few cashiers" is so helpful. You really have proved us all wrong.

It's not credible at all. In real life, target and walmart have gone up in sales considerably, due to curbside pickup and pandemic shopping. So much so that Target has already announced they will no longer open on Thanksgiving because they dont need the sales. I have a SIL who works for human resources at Target. They are hiring like mad and I can barely make it through one aisle without bumping into an employee.

Interesting as one of my friends who works full time was just cut down to 1 day a week, yes ONE. Single mom who needs a job. Not sure where this is, but this one, in a popular location always hires before the holidays and then cuts down on employees.

Most all large retail stores hire temporary holiday help.
