MMR side effects
So my DS had his first febrile seizure about a month ago. Ever since then I am absolutely petrified about the next time he gets sick. Normal neurotic mom stuff I guess.
He has a doctors appt in a couple of weeks (his 2 year well visit) and he will be getting the MMR vaccine.
What am I looking at here as far as side effects? I'm just trying to mentally prepare myself. Did your DC get fevers? Anything else? I'm just trying to see what the most common ones were. Thanks ladies

Re: MMR side effects
My son had no reaction to the MMR... He usually got a fever from most of his shots, but not this one!

Re: MMR side effects
if your son has had seizures in the past PLEASE do your research before having the vaccine administered.
Call your Ped and ask for what brand they use and then go on the manufacturers website and read the package insert. Try to find out if children who have already suffered seizures might be predisposed to have heightened reactions from the vaccine.
If you have ANY doubt then have each adminstered separately. One for measles, on another date one for mumps and then another for rubella.
Wishing you the very best and trust your momma instincts. Lots of peoples children are JUST fine from vax and there are some that aren't and that is the percentage that the manufacturers themselves will tell you may suffer horrible effects (not an opnion but fact from the insert).

Is it possible to separate them like this?? I was under the impression that you can't do this anymore...I'll be so happy if you can!

Febrile seizures aren't like regular seizures. They are brought on by fevers.. They are only caused by fevers. The OP should sit down and discuss it all with her pedi...

Re: MMR side effects
Febrile seizures aren't like regular seizures. They are brought on by fevers.. They are only caused by fevers. The OP should sit down and discuss it all with her pedi... Plenty of children have fevers and don't have the neuro effect of seizures. I think it's safe to say that her DC has reacted to a common occurrence with an Uncommon reaction. I would agree with MrsPenthouse and suggest that you look into this further before administering. Predispositions to diseases are often not noticeable...maybe this is life's way of giving you a warning sign that your DC is more sensitive to things. The MMR vaccine contains several ingredients that are known neurotoxins and/or allergens, both of which can trigger an autoimmune condition or other adverse outcome. Best of luck to you as you navigate this difficult decision.
Here's info from the package insert (taken from another article, referenced below):
Under the Warnings section, we are told that anyone currently with or who has a family history of convulsions, cerebral injury, or "any other condition in which stress due to fever should be avoided." SOURCE: MMR Vaccine: What the Manufacturer's Inserts Tells Us
