MMR - what are some of the side effects/reactions
That can happen from giving the shot?
I want to know the good, the bad, and the ugly...
Bring it on

Re: MMR - what are some of the side effects/reactions
This was Andrew's reaction. I took it from my post when I gave it to him.
He started acting lethargic and had a fever of 103. I gave him Motrin which brought it down to 101. He wouldn't eat. He was just lying there. Then before he went to bed I gave him more Mortrin.
Then 2 more times he woke up last night screaming and burning up. He is still sleeping now.

Re: MMR - what are some of the side effects/reactions
I started to tell you about this on your other post but erased it b.c I didn't want to scare you - but you asked...
My ped told me AFTER he gave DD her shot (LONG STORY) that she could get a reaction about 7-14 days later- after telling me before the shot she wouldn't get a reaction when I asked b.c I had a problem with MMR. In fact he said if she got a fever followed by a rash during that time to NOT call him.
Well she has NEVER had any reaction - no fever NOTHING to any other shot. Unfortunately I had problems with MMR when I was young and must have passed that on to her. Anyway - 9 days later she was fine all day playing etc - some friends were supposed to come over for a playdate and she woke from her nap and was REALLY hot - so I was worried b.c she had never had a fever before. Well she had 101.2 - over the next 24 hours - it went as high as 103.9 and she ended up with a small rash just as her ped told me she might. She got it wednesday afternoon and was fine by Thursday night. I was very upset and scared and my ped was NO help - told me not to call him unless she got 105 and to go to the hospital at 106 - and not to medicate her unless she was upset. Luckily aside from the fever she was happy as could be and just wanted to play all day. I think it was just scary for me - she was smiling and happy the whole time.
My understanding is that most don't have a reaction - but if they do have one it is usually a fever.

Re: MMR - what are some of the side effects/reactions
Here is some good news, my son had absolutely no side effects from any of his vaccinations, he took them like a man and then was just fine afterwards, and for the next few days. Not everyone has bad reactions to these things.

Re: MMR - what are some of the side effects/reactions
My niece has 105 fever for 2 days.
My research shows febrile sezuire is the biggest risk. Or allergic reaction
Stomach issues can occur, joint pain and swelling, Hives or a rash and bleeding disorders( but they are like 1 in 20 thousand ) .
I think the fever is what your gonna wanna look for short term.

Maddie developed a low feber (101.5) about 8 days later. Otherwise she was eating and drinking fine and her usual self.

Nothing, thankfully. They were a bit cranky for a few days after, but that may not have been from the shot.

Re: MMR - what are some of the side effects/reactions
Anthony started to limp a few days after his MMR shot. He then had a 104 fever. Since he was limping and had a fever the ped was concerned so sent us to the hospital. After several tests, they diagnosed him and it was a virus that traveled to his hip....Not sure if it was related to the MMR shot, but it happened right after it was given to him...I know one side effect is joint pain..so who knows. Once his fever broke, he was fine and he eventually stopped limping.. As far as any other changes..NONE!
