MMR vaccine questions for BTDT mommies
Isnt this the vaccine that is possibly linked to autism? I have heard that you can have these done separate or put them off awhile? DD has her 15 mth check up coming and this is on the list of vaccines...
is it bad to put it off? how long do you put it off for? what is the benefit? I am clueless with the details of this and any info you mommiescould give me or what youve done regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: MMR vaccine questions for BTDT mommies
Christopher will be getting them whenever my ped gives it (12 or 15 months). My DH is an EMT in the city and after the Hep B scare we had last month I am not taking the risk of my child not being vaccinated against anything.

Re: MMR vaccine questions for BTDT mommies
we split them up at 15 month check up and did fine only thing is the doctors charged a co payment for each shot which i thought was wrong. so it cost $60 in copayments for the one shot split up.

Re: MMR vaccine questions for BTDT mommies
My DD had hers at her 15 month visit all in one shot. I did not split or delay. I did not split or delay with my son either. I just am confortable with my pedi's schedule and the inconclusiveness that its linked in any way.

can someone explain what changes by putting it off or splitting them up? How does this help? I just want to know what Im talking about when I go in and speak to the dr. I dont want to sound like a moron Because it is a combo shot, the levels of mercury are very high and that is what people are linking to the possible causes of autism. If you split it up, I believe the levels of mercury are much lower and "safer."
I am beginning to question this theroy altogether,..and now am wondering if autism might be caused by all of the toys made in China. Lead poisoning causes lower IQ levels, behavior issues, etc. Wonder if there is a link to this?

Re: MMR vaccine questions for BTDT mommies
MMR does NOT contain Mercury nor did it ever. The Mercury that was in other shots came from Thimerosol that was used as a preservative, but it's no longer used. The supposed connection with MMR and Autism has nothing to do with mercury.

not true, thimerosol is still used as a perservative in many vaccines, you can request thimerosol-free vaccines.

Ok from my understanding speaking to doctors the link b/t mmr and autism is from thimersol ( which is mercury) AND thimersol is still found in some batches of vaccines still today. You have to ask your ped if they have thimersol free vaccines. Im going to wait, my ped wants to do it at 12months. Even though I do believe there has to be a genetic predisposition Im not 100% convinced with this vaccine. When I got this shot back in 99 it hurt like hell and left a nice bruise on my arm. I dont see the need to rush it at 12 months old. DD is never going to go to daycare and I prob wont start any school till 3 so she can wait.

I'm not going to go back and forth on this, but there is no thimerosal in routine children's vaccines. It was eliminated in late 1999. My son has developmental delays and I have researched the whole mercury thing and am very aware that it isn't used now.
"At a glance: Thimerosal is a mercury-containing preservative used in some vaccines and other products since the 1930's. No harmful effects have been reported from thimerosal at doses used in vaccines, except for minor reactions like redness and swelling at the injection site. However, in July 1999, the Public Health Service (PHS) agencies, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and vaccine manufacturers agreed that thimerosal should be reduced or eliminated in vaccines as a precautionary measure.Today, with the exception of some Influenza (flu) vaccines, none of the vaccines used in the U.S. to protect preschool children against 12 infectious diseases contain thimerosal as a preservative."
http://www.cdc.gov/od/science/iso/thimerosal.htm
And once again, MMR does not contain mercury. It's the live virus that has been said to cause an actual virus in the child which results in autism or autistic like behaviors.

Re: MMR vaccine questions for BTDT mommies
There is a small amount of thermerosal in flu vaccines still-that I'm positive about. I decided against the flu vaccine but followed my dr's rec on the MMR schedule. You have to do what right for you and your child.

DS has his 12 month appointment today and I plan on talking to the dr about this. I want to delay them and split them up.
Although they say it has nothing to do with Autism, I would rather not take any chances or have any regrets.

That is a good point.....because I know there have been studies done where they found high levels of metals in children with Autism.
