I agree, why do you think that these diseases are not around anymore?....you need to understand that it is due to people being vaccinated
Exactly!
And I think a lot of people in our generation never saw any of these diseases, so people think that they are gone. They are only gone b/c we are vaccinated against them.

Re: MMR vaccine questions for BTDT mommies
I just took my boys today for their 12 month appt and my doctor said she is fine with putting it off till their 15 or 18 month appointment, but she did note she does not believe that in any way, shape or form that it causes autism. I told her i felt more comfortable them doing it at the 15 month appt. They had their chicken pox one today.

Exactly Again!!!!!!
Little ones get so many shots so early so they have time to build up enough antibodies against these diseases. Healthy bodies even babies are not fragile at all, vaccines help and prevent and keep us healthy.
Everyone should go do some research about the diseases we are vaccinating for-how they KILLED thousands and trousands of people...and crippled many... Many of these diseases are still killing people today.
Be an informed parent and make an informed decision and do what's best..

Thank you! I totally agree, many people are misguided, they worry about the wrong things.
I will add though that I don't blame the parents who want to delay or not give their children certain vaccines. There is a lot of misinformation and incomplete information out there, these moms just don't want to see their child hurt. I totally understand, in your gut you don't want to do anything to your child that has even a tiny chance of hurting them.
And with the possibility of lawsuits and medical malpractice as it is today, pediatricians are afraid to say no when parents want to delay the shots. I wish the medical community as well as the mainstream media would push to clear up some of these misconceptions.

I might have been misguided about these diseases not being around anymore but I feel I am not misguided when it comes to worrying about the MMR. If that makes any sense.

But what are you worrying about? If you are truly worried, then you should do the research like sweetness recommended. Definately speak to your ped and get the facts. I think you mentioned cancer as one of your concerns, and I don't think that the MMR has EVER been linked to cancer. I really think that doing some research on the diseases the MMR prevents and what the vaccine does, would really help in making your decision.

Re: MMR vaccine questions for BTDT mommies
I def have done my research. I am not the one questioning whether or not to give it DS. I already decided I will be waiting a while.
I don't believe that the MMR can cause cancer. I do however feel that maybe it can be linked to vaccines.

Can I ask why? I am not being snarky, I just haven't even seen or heard this before and I am curious.

Exactly. That is what makes me wonder. Is there any research done to either confirm or deny this? I am not sure.

But don't you think that there would be some corraltion by now?

MMR does NOT contain Mercury nor did it ever. The Mercury that was in other shots came from Thimerosol that was used as a preservative, but it's no longer used. The supposed connection with MMR and Autism has nothing to do with mercury.
not getting into debate but i am very confused by this. could you send me the links to the research you have? i was always under the impression that the debate about MMR was about the use of thimerisol (mercury derivitive) in the vaccine. i have never heard about the live virus connection. thanks a bunch!
The link posted above shows the mercury content in the vaccines as well as the quote I posted from the CDC and the link to their page as well. There is NO mercury in MMR (or any of the other vaccines that children receive..not adults, children..other than the flu shot, which isn't routine). I'm all for people taking a stance against something, but if you aren't even informed enough to know WHY you are taking a stance against something, well that's a little silly don't you think? (and not meant "you" personally).
I have read some articles about the live virus. Actually I think the most recent one was in Newsday when they had a whole story about the Vaccine Injury Fund. I am at work so I don't have a bunch of time to google, but I'll try to find something later.

Summerrluvv:
Do you work in the medical field?
Nope, just a mom that has read a lot about the whole mercury issue since my son has developmental delays and I, like most, was looking for someone or something to blame. He received his shots when Thimerosal was used in the vaccines, and I received Rhogam when Thimerasol was in it, so could that be the cause? Sure, but I know that childhood vaccines don't contain mercury now so the hysteria is really unwarranted.
Another interesting thing to look at is Twins...one is on the spectrum, one isn't, they both get the same shots at the same time.

I agree 100% with Summerrluvv. There is so much hysteria that it begs the question why? Does anyone who is simply "delaying" the vaccine schedule have evidence that postponing or separating the shots will avoid future problems? As far as I'm aware, there is no evidence to support it. Everyone must do what they're comfortable doing. I had my children receive their vaccines as per the schedule after researching and speaking with my pediatrician and other MDs.
What I do find interested is that a several years ago (2004) 10 of the 13 researchers who co-authored the FIRST paper to link autism to MMR vaccines RETRACTED their statements. I think that says an awful lot. Authors Retract Findings

not strange at all, they have the same concerns most of us parents have and they feel there is no harm in delaying a few
ETA- I should not have said "ALL" of the immunologists that I work with, but "some" of them are (theseare the ones with young children)
