Let's say you have a 3 year old and an infant.

Infant goes in carrier thingy in the front of the cart, but where does toddler go?

assume you're shopping alone, no DH with you.

How old is your infant?

I put my 2 yr old toddler in the carriage seat and then I put my infant in the baby bjorn to shop. This has worked up until DS#2 was 7months. Once he got too big to face me I'd turn him to face out (just to buy me another couple of months).

Now that DS#2 is 8months I put DS#1 still in the carriage seat and the infant carrier in the back part. I'll put all my shopping goods under/around the infant carrier and next to DS#1. I also use the undercarriage and if I still have more then I carry anything else.

It stinks but sometimes you just have to do it. Good luck!

I have an 18 month old DD and a 5 month old DS so I encounter this a lot.

I usually will put DS (in his infant carrier) in the big part of the cart, and put DD in the toddler seat part of the cart. This works when I'm just getting a few things at the store.

If I know I will be needing the big part of the cart for my shopping, I still put DD in the toddler seat part of the cart, and I'll carry DS in a sling/front carrier. (This isn't the easiest but you gotta do what you gotta do.)

I'm not sure what I'm gonna do once DS is too big for the sling. I'll figure it out when the time comes.

Colin (13 months tomorrow) goes in the seat and Ryan (2yrs 8 months) in the back of the cart until it fills up too much and then he gets to walk and it's my nightmare

Sometimes I'll go to a supermarket that has that car for them to sit in just to have them entertained while I shop.

ETS: I just realized you're asking about early on - I either had the carrier in the front but held it while I pushed, or in the back - depending on the size of the car. You can also Bjorn the NB and put your toddler in the seat of the cart.

Alex will walk with me, otherwise she likes to sit in the cart itself... I let her do it as long as she stays seated

The infant carrier NEVER goes in the seat up in the shopping cart. I saw a shopping cart topple with a infant seat up there. I cringe every time I see a baby perched in their seat up there.

My toddler sits in the seat part, and I have the infant seat in the basket of the cart.

my infant carrier goes in the big part and my 2 YO goes in the seat. I have to pack the stuff I am buying under the cart adn around my DS snug ride.

Derek goes in the shopping cart. TJ walks next to me. He is good about not running away. Now he actually likes to stand on the front of the cart as I push it.

My DS is 4, just under 4 when DD was born. I mostly try to go with out DS (like when he is in school) otherwise I take one of those God awful fire engine carts, he drives that and DD goes in the seat part (in the infant carrier) and the groceries go in the basket. Otherwise DS walks or goes in the basket, but then I have nowhere to put the groceries.

when my DS was younger I did the bjorn for the younger...

now that they are 3 and almost 2

DS (1.75 yrs old) goes in seat and I give the 3 yr old the choice to ether walk or sit in the part where the items go

I also never put my carrier in the front of the cart, I am too nervous it will fall. In the beginning if I wanted to leave the baby in the bucket seat, I took my double stroller for short shopping trips. Once he was big enough I put him in my Beco and my 2 year old sits in the seat of the cart. Now that they are almost 1 and almost 3, occasionally I let my bigger one walk, but I try to avoid that for longer shopping trips.

Jack (3.5) goes in the back of the cart and Tyler (13mnths) sits in the front - I did this from 8 mnths on for Tyler.

Otherwise I had Ty in the Bjorn and Jack in the front of the cart. Or the Sit and Stand. OR - I went while Jack was in school and just had Ty with me!

When I have them together I can't use a shopping cart. They go in the stroller and I do what I can - some stuff can fit in the bottom and sometimes if I have to buy more than a few things, I'll fill up reusable shopping bags I hang off the handle of the cart.
We save the big food shopping for weekends.

In the beginning I would put my older DD in the top seat of the cart and then DD#2 in the infant carrier in the cart. Now that DD#2 is almost 9 months she sits in the top and DD#1 rides in the back of the cart. There is no way she could walk on her own, she would be all over the place. If I have a big shopping trip to make I either leave one DC home with DH or take him with me and we use two carts....but this doesn't happen at that often.

easiest thing for me was to use my double stroller as a shopping cart. i use the bottom, and attach a big shopping bag to the mommy hook. if i need more than a few things, i either bring DH or use peapod. most often i shop by peapod and just go to the store to pick up a few things that peapod doesnt carry. DD1 was only 13 months when DD2 was born, so I cant have her walking in the store yet--she wouldnt stay near me at all. (she'll be 2 this week)

When I did this over the summer, I carried DS in the baby bjorn and DD rode in the shopping cart.

When that's not an option, there's always Fresh Direct.

I hardly ever take both of them with me but when I do, my 18 month old goes in the cart seat and my 3 1/2 year old either walks with me or sits in the cart. I usually just take one of them with me when DH is home.

I try as hard as possible to go when DD is in nursery school. If both have to go, then 3yo is in toddler seat, and snug ride is in the big part of the cart. I also use Peapod a lot.

I dont have 2--yet, but I do babysit for a 1yo. I put her in the front. DS walks, goes in the back sometimes or like Dana said hangs on.

At the supermarket or anywhere I can, I let him bring his own shopping cart from home and he helps me! He LOVES that!
