Mommies of kids between 1 and 2 years old...
About how much weight do they gain between appointments?
Steven only gained 1/2 lb in 3 months. Before that, he gained 1 lb in 3 months. He was in the 90%, then dropped to the 75% now he is in the 50%. The ped said she doesn't want to see him drop another curve. So, I was wondering what a healthy weight gain for the 3 months would be at their age.

Is he growing though? I wouldn't be so concerned with the weight if I knew my kids were eating and that he/she was growing in length.

Re: Mommies of kids between 1 and 2 years old...
well, i'm not going to get the mom of the year award- I don't remember. I guess if something caught ped's eye with her not growing that they'd say something.. but- remember the % # changes. When DD was born, she was in the 50th % and then shot up to the 90%... so I wouldn't worry- these things do change....

It's so funny how different pediatricians are. DD has the same problem. She's gained as little as 4oz a month! My ped has not been concerned at all. He's just told me until she's 2 to encourage a high fat diet to get her to gain more. As long as she doesn't lose weight which she hasn't he said not to worry.

My DD just gained 1/2 lb in 4 months. My ped wasn't concerned BUT I am. I am mostly concerned b/c my DD could really go without food. She's just not interested.

Re: Mommies of kids between 1 and 2 years old...
I don't go back to the pediatrician until Niko's 18 mo. appointment in April..
But I can say that in the 3 months between his 1 yr and 15 month appointments, he gained only a smidge under a pound, like .8 or something (though he grew 2 inches). He was always in the 90% percentiles for both weight and height.. now I think he's like 50% in weight and 75% or so in height..
He used to gain a pound or more a MONTH in his first year.. so I was sort of taken back too. But now the gaining is slowing down drastically. And I honestly don't think he's gained anything since that appointment, since his clothes are fitting the same and he runs around SO much now that he burns everything off (and I have a good eater here too)
My ped. is very laid back and said that as long as he is gaining (however small the gain is) there is nothing to worry about
I'm sure Steven is doing great!

Re: Mommies of kids between 1 and 2 years old...
Really? My Ped said at this age they can gain as little as 3-5 lbs/YEAR - so when Ryan didn't gain much from 12-18 months they were not concerned. He was 95% for weight as an infant and now is 15% for weight. THe Ped is not concerned, he is developing normally in every way. He said he'll be average height and slim frame like his parents!

Really! I didn't know that. Now I don't feel so badly.l
My mom said some pediatritions just like bigger babies. The old school mentality of "nice and healthy"

Re: Mommies of kids between 1 and 2 years old...
I wouldnt be concerned at this age they are so mobile and busy exploring so they burn more calories compared to months ago when they werent walking/running etc.
DS has always been in his 50%. In the last few months he has gained 3lbs. He discovered animal crackers and wants to eat bananas and cheese all day he now has this big fat belly when just at Christmas time his belly was flat

I don't see why she is making you worry, dumb doctor! He sounds fine. Grace went from being 90% in weight and 100% in height to only 50% in weight and still over 100% in height too. My ped had no concerns- she did joke that she didn't look thin- as she ran around the office in her diaper with her chunky thighs

we are the same. Early months were off the chart...then he slipped to 80%.
at one year he was 75%.
haven't gone for 15 month yet.

Re: Mommies of kids between 1 and 2 years old...
I go for Hannah's 15 month appt next thursday so I'll let you know.
Even with 3 stomach viruses I bet this girl still gained weight. She's always been 90% height and weight, so I'm curious to see. I think her height has slowed down, but not her weight. She has a BUDDHA belly for sure.
We always joke who looks more pregnant, me or DD

Re: Mommies of kids between 1 and 2 years old...
Gillian does the "1 pound a month" deal. I went yesterday and she is only 23 pounds at 15 months. Her weight at the beginning was always 90 percent. I think she fell into the 50-60 percentile.

Re: Mommies of kids between 1 and 2 years old...
Ava is in the 50% for her weight, but the 90th for her height. She still gaines like 1-1.5 lbs. a month I definitely don't think she's the norm, though. They say that they stop gaining and should really only gain 1lb ever couple of months or so. My daughter just happens to be a weed in the growth department. I think percentiles are a load of crappola, and I only know Ava's because I asked my ped. Normally, he doesn't even use them because they don't really tell you all that much about your own kid, just about the average of everyone else's kids.

Re: Mommies of kids between 1 and 2 years old...
My ped doesn't do %s so I have no idea where she has been on the curve ever. But my impression is that they gain mostly in height during this year not nearly as much in weight. She's 23 lbs at 21 mos old.

Re: Mommies of kids between 1 and 2 years old...
At DD's 15 month appt, the ped said something about her not gaining enough weight, but she didn't sound too concerned. She just said that DD did not move up on the curve.
At her 17 month appointment, she was only 18 lbs 5 oz...but this kid eats all day long! I'm not worried about it.
She was at my parents house last weekend while I was out of town...and they couldn't believe how much this little tiny kid eats
