Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
I'm trying to prepare myself...
What was the worst part of labor for you? The early labor or the actual pushing??

Re: Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
I went into full labor with my second. The contractions were mind boggling. Once I was able to get the epidural, everything was a breeze from there!

the contracrions. To me the pushing felt good! It was the only time I wasn't in pain. I went naturally, no meds.

I never got to the watermelon actually pushing her little head out so I can't say but for me the worst part was from 7-10CM (transition) and the contractions on top of each other, I went for a natural birth pushing did feel good!

Re: Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
i went thru my whole pregnancy panicking and having nightmares about labor...i would actually cry to my DH & tell him I cant do it!!!!(he'd laugh bc obviously i had no choice) Honestly-and this is coming from the biggest baby in the world-I couldnt believe how easy it was....at the worst point of my labor, we were watching an episode of "friends" in the delivery room&laughing! If you do go into labor(and arent induced) you will feel the labor pains, theyre like really bad cramps-but bearable.Once you get an epidural, you wont feel a thing!!

Re: Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
Definitely the exception here.
I would say either the IV needle or the last few pushes - it felt like razor sharp pain.
Keep in mind that was with no epidural so I'm assuming if you have an epidural you won't feel anything.

contractions before the epidural
Agreed. After the epi, not so bad at all. Oh, and I had a nurse who didnt know how to insert an IV - good Lord, 2 attempts of sheer pain. I cried 2x that night - when they tried to get the IV in and when my son was born. My other 2 were c-sections but my v birth was a very good experience. I couldnt even imagine not getting an epi. ETA: Its not that you wont feel a thing after an epi - I just wanted to clarify - you wont feel the contraction pain but you wont be numb either. I think I would freak out at being numb where I couldnt feel anything.

Re: Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
I am in the miniority here I guess..they shut my epi off when it came time to push and it was the worst pain I ever felt. Probably because I pushed for 3 hours though and on top of it.got no where. Wound up having a c section.
I never had contractions in my stomach so I cant say how they feel..everything was in my back and before my epi..the contractions were AWFUL.
When they put my iv in, it wasnt TOO bad but at one point they had to do something to make it start dripping again...it got clogged..and omg...that was the worst pain ughhhhhh
overall....the contractions were the least of my pain believe it or not!

Re: Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
I went to 7 or 8cm with no epidural, it was painful but not unbearable... the worst part for me was the pain down there after!

Re: Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
My labor was very easy and not unbearable pain at all. The worst part of the delivery for me was after I got home, healing down below. That was very painful for me and I only pushed for 9 minutes.

Re: Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
I had an epidural so most of my contractions I didn't feel. It totally wore off before I had to push so the last couple of pushes I was the girl from the exorcist.

Re: Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
It's really not that bad With my daughter I chose not to have an epi or any medication (and I'm doing that again this time) and the worst part was just the cramping afterward when she starting BFing.. felt like bad contractions all over again! I was able to breath through all my contractions and knowing that I was going to see our little girl soon and that it was all worth it made it easy. Reading the hypnobirthing book really helped too.

Re: Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
I really had no expections when I went into labor and the actually day it happened I think I was in denial because I just kept breathing through the contractions. By the time I got to the hospital they were starting to get worse and I was admitted at 6cm. I got the epidural and took a nap. Once you got the head down and it was crowning that was the worst for me. I think they turned down the epi. because you need to feel the contraction in order to push and when the head is right their it slighting burns. But surprsingly when you want to push and are having the contractions pushing through them is best way to relieve the pain at least how I felt. I think you try to stay calm and you breathe and dont scream durning the contractions you will experience a better labor.

Re: Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
early contractions not knowing if "this is it" was annoying - but the worst part for me was the back labor I experienced. Started around 5cm. Not everyone has this but man, it took my breath away like nothing else. Got my epi fast and all was well!!

Re: Mommies: What's the worst part of labor?
I thought the labor and pushing were the easiest part The contractions for me weren't bad at all, i got an epi at 4cm's and was in heaven.
I pushed for a long time, that was hard but very bearable.
The hardest and worst part for me was the recovery. My Epiositomy , healed easily and nicely, but they were cake compared to the fissures I got! Labor pains feel like tickles compared to fissures.
That was the worst part, i am more afraid of my fissures then labor, pushing, epiositomy, birth and even taking care of 2 under 2.

I really don't think labor was that bad. Yes, the contractions hurt but not until I was about 7 cm did they really hurt. I waited until the very end, 10cm dialated, before I got an epidural. I have to say had I been allowed to walk around and sit up ( I developed pre-eclampsia and was stuck in bed by BP cuff and IVs), I probably would have skipped the epidural. Pushing didn't hurt at all for me. It just felt like some weird pressure.
5 minutes after giving birth, I said I would do it again in a second.
Dont' worry too much about labor because you get through it and the anticipation is worse then the actual labor.
