Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
How & when do you find the time???? I just saw some pictures of me from a month ago & all I can say is I NEED to hit the treadmill!
But with the two little guys, I have no time. My DH does not get home until close to 6 & that falls right into bedtime routines...I need some tips/motivation!

Re: Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
I try to do a video during the day when the oldest is at school in the morning, the middle child is occupied and the baby is in a mood to chill out. My 4 month old squels and laughs out loud when she watches me do Ta-Bo. I guess it like cartoon character entertainment.

I have a great workout
I run to the fridge, open it, grab a donut, and shut it.....then shovel donut in my mouth.
I'm also a marathon chip-eater

Re: Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
It's like my saving grace now.
I only go to Zumba. I go Tuesday nights and Sunday mornings. Unless I have a major thing going on that I can't miss - I am at that Zumba class.
I just started going to the Thursday morning classes now also, and dropping the boys off with my family. I've never done anything like that before but it really helps my sanity and I need it.
I hate the regular gym though, so I would never have motivation to go run on a treadmill. You need to find something you love to do and just make time for it.

Re: Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
oh boy...your 2 DC are still so close in age and little-you just need to get started but not go crazy. my DD was almost 3yrs old and my DS was about 9 months when i finally got back out there and started running again. honestly, once i started to get more sleep at night this was possible. my DH is out of the house from 5am to almost 8pm mon-fri i work f/t and my treadmill is broken! here's some tips though (i just trained for and ran the NYC marathon-not saying anyone should run a marathon! lol) but this is what worked for me just to get into shape: 1. i joined WW first to drop the initial lbs. BEST thing i did. i lost the first lbs. by just doing WW 2. started off slow and consistent. meaning i aimed to run like only 2 miles 4 days a week. it only took like maybe 25 minutes to a 1/2 hour to do that and it built up my cardio. i read in runner's world that even if you ONLY do 20 minutes of exercise that is better than nothing. once i realized that i started doing something w/o feeling like i had to put in hours. 3. i run sat/sun when DH is home and i go EARLY so i don't miss time with my kids. i go 2x a week to the gym at night which is just enough. or i go before i go to work (my mom comes over 1x a week) so i can do it. 4. i also liked using jillian michaels 30 day shred. i did this while my kids were playing in the room (it's only 20 minutes!) sorry this is so long! it's sooooo not easy finding time to do ANYTHING let alone exercise when you have young children! i think you should just start small and build up. again, good luck! i know it's not easy!

This sounds like the workout I just had...
I did try to do lots of walks with the girls in the stroller over the summer, but now that it's colder and soooo dark sooooo early haven't really done anything and i can sooo see it on my body

Can you join a gym that has babysitting? I only have one DS but I took him to the gym starting at 4 months.

Re: Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
DH and I alternate. We both get home and do our best to team up to get the kids in bed. The person that is not working out cleans all the dishes and bottles and prepares for the next day so the other person can get out of the house and to the gym.
It doesn't always happen but we try really hard to make it happen as much as we can.

Well, DS weight about 24lbs. now, and DD is about 11lbs....I consider carrying them around all day, up and down stairs my workout.
I did go on walks with them frequently over the summer, but now that it's cold, it's harder to get out and get motivated.

Re: Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
I don't. But i expect that in a few months I'm going to rejoin a gym with babysitting and go at least once per week (sundays). no idea when else I would actually be able to go.

Re: Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
When my little one was 15 months I joined a gym that had daycare and the cost of it is included monthly. They take infants from 6 months and up. There was no other way for me to do it because my DH comes home between 6 and 7:30 so it is never the same.

Re: Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
I don't mind investing in strollers since i don't pay for a gym membership. maybe get a good double with a great wind cover?
yesteday, I snuck both kids into my community gym and they watched TV while i ran.
if your dh has 2 days off a week...then make that your 2 days for working out. then you really just have to worry about getting a 3rd one in. good luck!
when all else fails, i pop in 30 day shred

Re: Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
Working out was a really struggle for me with 2 little ones. Really two things had to happen for me to come up with a plan. One, both kids had to be sleeping, consistenly through the night. If I was up in the middle of the night, I was a zombie during the day and just making it through the day was my goal. Two, a FB friend kept posting in her status, about how she was up before her kids woke up and working out. She kept posting how much weight she was losing and about how many calories she was burning and I was honestly jealous! If she could do it, so could I! I had found so many excuses not to do it. I don't have the time, DH works from 7-7. I'm exhausted when he comes home. I can't do it at home, I have no motivation. I don't want to leave him with both boys for bathtime. Doing it in the morning before he leaves was the only solution for me. I started over the summer, I would get up 10 minutes before him, 5:40 AM. Get myself together and go out and walk. Then it rained. I decided to try the indemand videos. I dvr'd FIT TV. I do crunches and squats and lunges and use a yoga ball. I do Zumba. I do it all within 45 minutes and then shower right after DH leaves, get dressed and get ready before the boys wake. This was working great for me, until DS started school, and decided to share his germs and we've all been sick for the last 4 weeks on and off . Now I'm trying not to gain back the weight I have lost. But once your little ones have a routine, you'll find the motivation to do it. And like a pp said - the double stroller is a great investment. For me, it's a task just to dress and prep for the walk, but if that's all you can do, then that's what you do! Good luck!!!

Re: Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
I usually do it when my infant is napping and surprisingly DS #1 loves watching me.
He yells at me to "exercise, mommy, exercise" all the time.
I pop in Jillian Michael's 30 day shred. It is only about 25 minutes long, so it doesn't take too long and everything is in 1-2-3 minute intervals and I try to make it goofy and fun for him like when I am doing jumping jacks or punching. He loves to imitate me. he thinks it is a game like when we go to the playground.

Re: Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
Thanks ladies! I already told DH that starting this weekend, I need 20-30 minutes in the am to get on the treadmill when he gets home from the gym. I figure if I can get at least 2 days in of the "massive" cardio, it is better then nothing. Then if I can find time on a day that he gets home earlier then 7pm.

Re: Mom's of 2 or more: working out question?
I use to work out at 4:30 am but I missed a lot of workouts. I now run on my tradmill after everyone goes to sleep. Believe me there are 1000 other things I would love to do at 8:15 instead of running but I HAVE to.
Good Luck

Are there stroller strides classes or similar classes geared towards moms in your area?
