mom's of 2 year olds
Did your DC go thru a hitting/pushing stage? My DS is 21 mos and has started hitting and pushing us, other kids, whoever. I always tell him, thats not nice, we don't hit, be nice, and if he continues he gets time-out. Its just that it is so awkward when you go to a park or something. I feel like I have to be on top of him, but then I think maybe that adds to the problem. When certain friends and I get together we kind of stand back and watch and the kids end up playing nicely with the occassional push or shove, but you can't do that with strangers children. Then I am horrified if he hits another child. We don't hit our DS, he is not in daycare, where did he learn this? Maybe from it happening to him ....i don't know.
Is this a phase, am I handling it right? Are you going thru the same thing? Please share......

It's all a phase dont worry. Just be firm and let him know that hitting and pushing is not nice. 2 year olds do understand time out.

Agreed. Just wait until he starts biting.

He has understood time-out for a long time now, he use to put himself in it, but now understands that it isn't somewhere you want to be. It just so awkward when he hits another child, he has never hurt anyone, its always just been a little smack - the child getting hit has never cried or been hurt, but it bothers me. Guess I just have to wait it out......
