Moms of a baby and a toddler-question
I have a 2 year old and a newborn. Yesterday was my first day taking them out together to shop/lunch. I had my Mom with me and even with that extra set of hands- still a crazy time!
Any pointers- should I get a double stroller, use the Bjorn, etc? Any advice is much appreciated. TIA!

Re: Moms of a baby and a toddler-question
i have a double stroller with my 3 year old.
i love it and need it. the three of us truck it along all over with no help. it is josh's "job" to let me know how baby is doing, put her socks on, check baby...so he is content in stroller doing his "job"
the three of us have been to museums, on train trips, parks, amusement park, movies.

Hi, what is your current set up right now? do you have a double stroller or no?
What exactly was crazy about your outing? It is a big adjustment in the beginning, but you'll get the hang of it in no time. :O)

Re: Moms of a baby and a toddler-question
Thankfully my 2 year old still sat in her stroller so the double stroller came in handy for us when DD#2 was still a baby. DD#2 had reflux and tummy issues and would never let me put her in the baby bjorn until she was much older but I have seen plenty of Mom's at the park chasing a toddler and wearing a baby bjorn with a baby.
I also made sure to keep plenty of extra toys/crayons/books/washable markers in the car and diaper bag for feeding times while out and about. My toddler only now is fighting sitting in a highchair but while the baby was still small it was a blessing to have her occupied and not running around.
Food shopping was a bit of a challenge so I tried to save the bulk items for when DH was around. When I went out with the girls I wasn't buying so many heavy things since we have a bit of a walk through our complex to the front door.
Sometimes (at home) even just holding the baby and letting DD#1 brush my hair, put makeup on my face kept her nice and entertained.

I have to say, it's always a little bit nutty going out with the two kids, but you get used to it and get into a rhythm that works for you.
Depending on where we are going, I use the Bjorn. Sometimes the double stroller. If there are two of us we will use a single stroller and put Jack (almost three) in a shopping cart.
Depending on the age of your first child (just turning 2? 2.5?) would determine what kind of stroller to get. We have the double sit and stand deluxe and it works for us (27 month age difference)

Re: Moms of a baby and a toddler-question
I have the double citi mini --my kids like this but we also have the Bugaboo with the stand that my 3 yr old likes more
I started using a backpack instead of a diaper bag---I felt this freed my hands more

I use a buggy board that Noah loves to ride on, usually a good bribe for him to behave when we are going somewhere, also, I pop Immi in the sling a lot, keeps her happy and I can take care of Noah with no fuss.

Double stoiller helps out - as the others said you will get your own rhythm and it takes time. I started out small - went to the park by myself with the boys. As time goes by it gets a little easier but it can be a challeng. I'm still getting used to going shopping with the 2 of them. they are only 14 mos apart.

We have the same exact age difference- 27 months. I will check out the Sit and Stand deluxe.
I am sure I will become more adept with practice.

thanks everyone...
any double stroller recommendations?
I have a 6 mos old and a 2 year old. Here's how I do it:
-- for grocery shopping where I must have a cart/wagon to put stuff in, I put the infant in a chest carrier thing (Easy Rider) and put the toddler in the seat portion of the shopping cart.
-- for BRU/Target shopping (faster than a grocery store visit), I put the infant carrier in the seat portion of the shopping cart and I hold my toddler's hand while we're out and about. This also helps to tire him out so he naps better
-- for walks to the park or library I use my double stroller (City mini side by side).
In the beginning I used my Graco Duoglider (back to back) double stroller to go EVERYWHERE...I found I could fit a weeks worth of groceries in the basket portion and never had to disturb my sleeping infant plus the toddler was in the front seat and had a great view of everything.
HTH.

Re: Moms of a baby and a toddler-question
I have a 3 year old and 6 month old twins - so when they were born he was 2 1/2.
He will not sit in the stroller at all. But....he is very good when we are out. He likes to walk next to the stroller and watch them. It is not easy, but you will figure out what works best for you!
