Moms of girls 6 and older
What are you putting under your girls shirts.
DD is 6. Right now she wears an undershirt. She has two sports bras I let her wear during tumbling with a shirt over it (if she had it her way she wouldn't wear a shirt with it and it doesn't help other parents let their kids do that but that's a whole another topic )
With summer coming lots of her tank tops and dresses would show the undershirt strap and maybe top or back of it.
Should I care it can be seen besides the fact of the way it looks I imagine it probably could be hot.
I don't know if I should not let her wear anything. Start getting training bras which she has asked for after seeing her cousin who is a few years older than her have them.
What do you put on them?
No idea why all of sudden this year I am questioning what to do I guess I feel like she is getting older and I feel I can't have her not wear anything anymore undershirt but you can tell me I am being ridiculous and its fine not to have her wear anything under her shirts

Re: Moms of girls 6 and older
My DD is almost 7. I don't put anything under her shirts. I never in her life have. Especially her t-shirts- they are pretty form fitting, anything under it would be too bulky and make it too tight. Not to mention too hot in the summer.
Should she be wearing something under her shirts? I never even thought to do that.
And ABSOLUTELY no training bra. At 6 years old???

I am not ready for training bras though she thinks they are cool
and maybe there is no need I have a friend who would think its completely wrong not to have anything under her shirt so of course she has me questioning things though I know she has a lot of different views than most do. That's why I wanted to see what others do.
I know she puts on spaghetti tank tops on her daughter but she also dresses her kids in a size or 2 up for shirts then what they wear in pants cause she like the clothes to look big/long not tight at all

Who cares what your friend thinks? You do what works for you. She sounds like she's stuck in another era Back when I was a kid my mom used to make me wear an undershirt under everything and I hated it. It's not the 1960s anymore. I don't feel a 6 year old needs an undershirt- unless they are wearing something SO loose that it might fly up on the playground or something, but everything my DD wears is pretty form fitting and it's not going anywhere. I can't imagine trying to shove another shirt under it.

My DD is 6 and the only time I put an undershirt/tank/cami on her is if the actual shirt is a little too big near the neck or arm holes.
Do what makes you feel comfortable for YOUR daughter. Don't let anyone else convince you otherwise.
I do not allow my DD to wear shorts that are too short. I always make sure they are 3 inches above the knee or longer. I prefer bermuda shorts.
Some of the shorts in the stores are booty shorts and I will not allow my daughter - at any age - wear them.

Re: Moms of girls 6 and older
Thanks in the long run I am the last person to really ever care what anyone thinks I don't know why I am so undeceive and concerned about this scenario.
I will probably just decide on what she is wearing that day if a shirt needs to be under it, like if its too big, material is thin and kinda see through etc.

Dd doesn't even own an undershirt. And I can't imagine buying a sports or training bra before she's at least 10! I don't understand why a 6yo needs a sports bra.

Re: Moms of girls 6 and older
DD will be 8 on Sunday. If she has on a looser tank top and I can see her boobies from the side, then she has to wear a form fitting cami underneath it - Target/Children's Place/Old Navy sell good ones. There are too many pervs out there - I personally am just not comfortable with people being able to see her boobies at this age. When she was 2 or 3, I had no problem. Not at 8. That's just me though.

My dd runs hot so she would never tolerate an undershirt. She's 6 there is absolutely no reason she needs a bra. Just make sure her clothes are fitted. I just make sure if she has a dress in she has bicycle shorts on because I want her free to be a kid without flashing everyone.

she is in tumbling and her shirt is constantly flying up. She is doing back walk overs, cart wheels, learning back handsprings so she needs something underneath. The sports bra works well for this. I am personally not OK with her wearing one without a shirt over it but there are tons of girls in the gym that only wear sports bras

Is this a gymnastics class? In DD"s class all the girls wear leotards -either one piece - or the two piece spandex tank and matching shorts- so shirts flying up are not an issue.

no its a cheer tumbling class she actually has switched to private lessons but still they don't wear one piece outfits. Maybe what these girls are wearing are two piece gymnastic outfits but if it is to me it still looks like sports bra and I wouldn't be comfortable for DD to wear it. Maybe what I got her is really not a sports bra I bought them at children's place and they had matching shorts/pants for them but I didn't get them because I had no intention of letting her wear the top without a shirt.
ETA: is this a 2 piece gymnastic out fit if so to me that looks like a sports bra Image Attachment(s):

Yes I saw those. The one I got my DD in target is like that except the top is longer- like a full tank top. I love it because it's 2 piece so if she has to go to the bathroom it's easier than a leotard. But it has much more coverage than the sports bra type tops. It's a full tank top

Gotcha, that makes perfect sense. As far as the training bra at this age i would tell her no way.

My girls are 6 & 8. Both are very slim so at their insistence almost every t-shirt they wear is loose and they usually wear tanks under them. Like my oldest daughter is a nut about it. They recently got a few sports bras which they will wear too under clothes. I have no problem with it. If they feel good in it great.

Re: Moms of girls 6 and older
My DD is almost 7, and she only wears tanks under those loose shirts that are almost off the shoulder tees. Otherwise she doesn't wear undershirts. I have no idea what age a training bra would come into play, but I think 7-8 is still too young. She does wear those sport bra type things for gymnastics, but it's only because she comes from soccer so I'm not able to put her in a Leo, and I force her to keep her shirt on. she complains bc she is the only one, but im just not comfortable with it.

hmm I will have to look for those we could use a few more outfits and I am OK with a two piece as long as it overs most of her stomach

since you do allow your kids to wear sports bras under there clothes (and no judgment here I don't find it a big deal at all my question was more do I have to, is it expected, is it appropriate not to have one on etc)
would you let them wear this. This is what I meant by a training bra I realized some training bras actually look like bras this one to me looks more like a sports bra than anything else. This is just a curiosity question. Image Attachment(s):

Does she have boobs at 6? I know kids that were 6 and had boobs, so they wore cami type tanks under stuff. At 6 my DD had nothing. At 10, I only have her wear a tank top under her clothes if it's a tighter shirt and a light color, or the arm pits gap. She has no boobs, no buds, nothing lol.

That's different, just have her continue to wear the sports bras. My DD is a gymnast, but wears a leotard to gymnastics, so when she is flipping, nothing is lifting up.
I should've read ahead My DD goes to dance, and most of the girls wear those two piece outfits with the shorts and cropped tanks. Cheer is the same! My DD went to LI Cheer when she was younger, and that's all the girls wore!

My DD is 10 and wears nothing under her shirts. In gymnastics she wears a leotard but would wear a sports bra for modesty sake if she didn't like leotards. If your daughter is starting to wear training bras at 6 because she is starting to develop I would take her to the doctor, that is really early.
