Moms of infant girls - if you put hair accessories in your DDs hair...

do they ever pull them out? Do you worry about them pulling them out when you aren't looking and choking on them?

I would love to put a clip or something in DDs hair, but I am betting she would pull it out. So it makes me wonder if there are any good suggestions out there that I am missing?

I put pigtails with bows in Alexa's hair almost everyday. SHe doesn't even know they are there and never reaches for them

Elizabeth almost always pulls them out... and then I put them right back in. I've never worried about her choking on them - for all the things she puts in her mouth, her clips were never one of them.

ETA: I think by the time they are old enough to realize there's something in their hair, they are also old enough to understand NOT to put them in their mouths.

Kaydyn at 18 months still tries to pull them out of her hair....but she has a ton of hair so we have to put something in.

At my 30th birthday party (Kaydyn was 8 mos) my sister found her with her little hair clip in her mouth. We didn't put clips in her hair for a while, but we have to.

She's good about not eating them now though.

DD (14 months) has only tried to take them out of her hair once.

She was throwing a tantrum and she put her hands through her hair. She didn't get it out, but it did distract her from her tantrum. Chat Icon

Other than that one time, she doesn't notice it at all.

i dont let her nap with anything in her hair that she could choke on. I take out the bows. I leave the rubberbands in bc I make them tight enough where she can't really pull them out - however, IF she did get it out, she wouldnt choke on it , its too small.

That happened once, i was looking at her in the monitor when i got out of the shower. So she was playing for like 20 min. I go in to pick her up and realize she got her rubberband loose and was chewing on it Chat Icon Chat Icon I panicked and dug my finger around until i got it. But worst case scenario is - it would come out in her poop

My DD lacks hair, so I use headbands with big flowers or corkscrew bows clipped on.

She never plays with it, unless she's in the car then she pulls it over her eyes. Needless to say, we take her headband off before putting her in the car.

i put bows in dd's hair all the time when she was little. then one day she figured out it was there and i caught her going to put it in her mouth! i was petrified she would choke on it so I stopped putting them in for a long time..unless i was taking pictures of her. i just started putting them in again (larger ones that wont fit in her mouth and she is older and knows not to do it)....i also use the fabric rubber bands for pig tails.

Abby NEVER pulls them out. I always take them out when she is in her crib sleeping. I am lucky - my kid accessorizes well. She likes hats, sunglasses, barrettes etc...

Re: Moms of infant girls - if you put hair accessories in your DDs hair...

Peyton pulls everything out of her hair and it goes straight in her mouth, so I have been so nervous about it lately that I have pretty much stopped trying. I have a fear of her pulling it out in her carseat and choking on it. She has alot of hair, so I had to cut bangs to keep it out of her eyes, even though I did not want to.

I only let DD (17 mos.) wear clips when I can see her . . . otherwise she'll pull it out and put in in her mouth. The choking risk makes me too nervous so I take out her clips for car rides, naps, etc.

I've been acessorizing allison's hair since she was 2 months old...she's never reached for her hairbows or knows they're there. I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Moms of infant girls - if you put hair accessories in your DDs hair...

DD is 11 wks old and wears a bow or headband in her hair EVERY day! Never have had a problem and she grabs everything else lately (knocks on wood!). The days she wears headbands I do take it out during car rides; I have a fear of her wrapping it around her neck and me not knowing(PARANOID MUCH?!?!?) Mattea has a TON of hair so without an accessory it just looks sloppy!

I put a headband on Chloe for the first time this past Sunday (her Christening). I was so surprised she didn't pull it off. Her hair isn't long enough for a clip/bow yet. Why don't you try headbands?

DD hates anything on her head. Plus it leaves an indentation and I always felt bad that maybe it's annoying to her (which is why she pulls them off).

This is a kid who screams bloody murder when you put her shirt over her head, she hates anything on her head. Otherwise I would love to see her in a headband.

My DD is the same way, which is why I was so relieved when she let us put her in her huge gown, little shoes, ruffled underwear and headband. The shoes came off about halfway through the ceremony, but otherwise she was good.

I think I jinxed myself!

Just this morning DD put a ponytail holder in her mouth for the first time. I took it out, and she grabbed it and started chewing on it again. Chat Icon

I am glad it worked out!

We have ONE headband shot from DDs christening b/c she hated it. I am lucky enough she was cooperative in keeping the hat on.
