Moms of newborns who EBF q. for you.
How are you getting your newborn to sleep long stretches at night?
I am EBF my DS. He is 7 weeks and probably weighs 12-13lbs. He was 11lbs 3 weeks ago so I am assuming he has gained some since.
He goes down for the night around 8.30-9 and will wake at 1am and 4am before waking at 7am to start the day.
Now I thought this was pretty normal until I started reading posts from other moms of newborns who EBF and their little ones are sleeping 8hr stretches!!! I know every child is diffrent but this is my second and I must be doing something wrong?

7wks is still really little to expect STTN already. By 9wks, DD was sleeping from about 10pm to 6am. After that, the stretches for progressively longer and now at 6 months old and still EBF, she sleeps from 8pm to 8am. It just takes time and every baby is different. Just be happy you aren't up every 2hrs in the middle of the night, b/c there are a lot of people that are. Just be patient and your DC will start sleeping longer stretches. I promise.

DS started STTN @ 7weeks... I didnt do anything, he just did it on his own...every now and then he throws me a curve ball and is up a few times at night... but for the most part he is consistent...
When he is ready he will do it, dont worry!

Re: Moms of newborns who EBF q. for you.
Thanks - believe me I know about the every 2 hour waking as my DD used to wake every 2 1/2 hours and this lasted well into her first year - she was nearly 2 before she started sleeping longer stretches.
I am not bothered by the waking - more curious as to how others get their newborns to sleep long stretches and I have not been able to. I am slightly worried that I am headed for the long road that I went on with my DD where she didnt sleep through until she was 2. Thanks

It's very common for EBF babies to not STTN at 7 weeks. I don't think there's anything you can do to get DC to STTN. The only thing I'd suggest is maybe giving a bottle of pumped milk before bed instead of nursing. Perhaps that will fill DC up more. I never tried this though so I can't tell you if it worked. DS is EBF and didn't start STTN until he was 7 months old.

I EBF and DD did not sleep through the night consistently until she was 10 months.
