Moms of only children - swing set question
DS is 2 1/2 and we are starting to think about swing sets. Those huge wood ones are just awesome but is it worth the money for a kid who has no one to play with on it? DH and I are 99% sure Andrew will be an only child so this is a valid question. TIA

Re: Moms of only children - swing set question
Our DD is likely to be an only- we are going to try and sell our house soon but that's the main reason why we won't get one. Once we move, we probably will get one because she will have friends/cousins over to play. I think it's a good investment at his age.

Re: Moms of only children - swing set question
I was an only and LOVED my swingset. Albeit a 70s metal one from Sears
I literally played on it every day and it kept me outside, busy and happy. My friends often came over and enjoyed it as well.
Honestly, it was one of the best gifts my parents ever gave me.

Re: Moms of only children - swing set question
TTCer crashing. I was an only child, well my sister was born when I was 12, so I was raised as an only child, and I always had a swing set. When you are an only child you, at least I, had friends over a lot more, so it got lots of use.

Re: Moms of only children - swing set question
Thomas has two older half-brothers (13 and 10) and I'm definitely getting a swingset for him this year (turning 3). I'm thinking to spend around $600 to $1,000 and I think Walmart has some nice ones online.

Re: Moms of only children - swing set question
We have a big wooden one from Creative Playthings. DD is an only child right now- and probably will be for a while. She loves it! I don't find it too big- and was definitely worth the money. Remember, DS will have friends!

Re: Moms of only children - swing set question
I have only one child and we bought the swing set when she turned 2 for one simple reason, when I'm tanning in my backyard I needed something to keep her occupied. but it def. comes in handy whenever you have a party. DD does play with it all by herself too. She loves playing with her dolls on the swings and all.

Re: Moms of only children - swing set question
Well right now we just have swings (2) and we will eventually add on a bigger "playset". If we only have DS there will always be friends to come over and play on it with him.

Re: Moms of only children - swing set question
DS is a only child and has a metal swingset. It was very inexpensive. I even have 2 infant seats on it. For playdates.
I never saw it as a waste. DS still needs to have fun. He loves the swing. And for GTGs, backyard parties and playdates, it has been VERY popular.

Re: Moms of only children - swing set question
i think the swing set will workout just fine with an only child. I grew up by myself (big age difference with my sisters) and I loved my swing. I would go on it by myself and when friends came over.

Re: Moms of only children - swing set question
I look at it in a different light. If Andrew is an only child, wouldn't you want to take him to a nearby park to play with other kids? Unless you have some organized playdates that you can host in your house, then I see the money being well spent. But if that was me, I'd rather take him out to play with other kids.

Re: Moms of only children - swing set question
I wasn't an old child, but my brother was 7 years older than me, so I pretty much grew up like an only child.
I loved my swing set. I was on that thing every single day!
