Moms of Pacifier Babies - What do you suggest?
My little girl is 13 months and loves her paci - I HATE it!! Mostly because she has me up at all times during he night every night because she loses her paci and wants me to put it back in. I run to put it in because i don't want her waking her sister. I haven't slept through the night since she was born (unlike my other daughter that slept through the night without getting up once).
I refuse to buy more pacificers to put in her crib so she can find it and put it in her mouth. I really want to get rid of it but wanted your opinions....
Should I go cold turkey? What should I expect?? Im guessing alot of whinning from her because it does kept her quiet..lol.
Did your children start sucking their thumbs after? I really don't want her to go from paci to thumb either....
TIA - i want to do this soon!!

I am so glad you wrote this! If I am atill getting up with her @ 13 months I will be very annoyed. I hate the paci and was wondering also the best time/way to get rid of it.

Re: Moms of Pacifier Babies - What do you suggest?
Well, honestly, I'd put more in the crib so she could find one herself. That is what DS does, and has done since he was about 11-12 months.
BUT I am a freak b/c I really don't want my DS sucking his thumb. I had to have braces JUST b/c I sucked my thumb, so I am paranoid about it and I won't get rid of the pacifier until we are in the clear for teething.

Ive read on here to cut the end off and she wont like it as much. I know this is going to be an issue with my DD, as she cant go to sleep without her paci!

We throw 4 or 5 of them in the crib so we do not have to get up with her, she can almost always find one.
We are planning on trying to break her of the habit around maybe 18 months. Some ideas I read on here are cutting them, having them give them to other babies, and cold turkey. Not sure what we will do though when the time comes.

We always have 4 or 5 in the crib, but she's been finding them since she's been able to roll over. Thank heaven!!
I have been trying to ween her off of them by not bringing one to daycare, and then at bedtime, I stopped putting it in her mouth - if she wants one, so can look over and grab one. In a few months I will probably try cutting the tips off a few.

Re: Moms of Pacifier Babies - What do you suggest?
Both DC had pacis. We put several in the crib at night. There was a period of time where we had to get up often to "plug them back in", but it passed.
They just want to be comforted. There's nothing wrong with wanting comfort. If they really want to suck on something to feel better, and there's no paci, they'll use their thumb. Try taking away their thumb when they're 2!
Both DC pretty much gave up on the paci themselves around 18 months or so. It's just a stage, and it passes, so I would just get more to put in the crib, and wait it out....
