for moms that both nursed and then bottle fed (formula or bm), i'm wondering which you felt was easier.

i only bf my oldest but i'm wondering if would be easier to switch over to bottle feeding my baby.

i like the convienence of night time feedings and not bottle washing but it seems more time consuming (tough with a 2 yr. old) and harder out of the house (i cover up but not one of my fav. things to do.) and i'd love to have my dh feed too.

what are your experiences?

nursing, hands down. i HATE washing bottles. i have the drop ins and buying the formula, mixing it up, and cleaning the nipples every day is such a hassle. if i didn't have to work and pump at work i think i would still be BFing.

I hated bottle feeding. I had to for a month when we had thrush. All the washing and warming bottles stunk. I prefer to whip out the boob. Much easier, well once you get passed the initial pain.

I only do bottle feeding for daycare and whenever I'm away from DS for several hours. I don't like pumping or washing bottles. For me, it's so much easier to just nurse him. It takes much less time and effort.

Bottle feeding is easier but I like nursing better. Both my kids had issues so I never got to nurse as long as I would have liked but I'm SO glad for the time I had doing it.

Having both EBF and then switched to formula, I thought formula was SOOO much easier.

Re: moms that nursed AND THEN Bottle fed (poll)

I nursed for the first 2 months and then switched to exclusively pumping because of latch issues & trouble weaning off the nipple shield.

I totally prefer pumping & bottle feeding. I guess because we had issues, nursing was miserable for both of us. I know a lot of the moms on here said they felt a slave to the pump, but I feel the opposite. Nursing every 1.5-2 hours was so time consuming and taxing.

Now I pump 4 times a day (every 6 hours), so I have the freedom to go out for a while & not worry. DH and the in-laws can feed DS. Are there times I wish I could whip out the boob - sure. But I'm happier pumping. It's definitely not for everyone, but I prefer it.

I find doing both the easiest. I BF and give bottles when its convienient for me (like if I have to leave the house and don't want to BF in public, etc)

ITA!! especially once a few months have gone by-there is nothing more than literally taking out your boob to feed your child Chat Icon
no formula, water, cleaning bottles....
but nursing in the very BEGINNING is definitely harder!

Nursing is MUCH easier!! I EBF for 11 months, then Todd Jr went onto bottles of soy milk, OMG it was sucha PITA to clean bottle all the time--lol I love pulling out the boob and putting him on, so much easier, and you don't have to heat anything up either!Chat Icon

Re: moms that nursed AND THEN Bottle fed (poll)

each is easier for different reasons.

Nursing can be sooo convenient at times, and sooo inconvenient at times (at the pool!!!).

Nursing is so soothing to a fussy baby. You can't prepare a bottle every time the baby is crying (when it isn't time to eat). But the boob works in ten seconds!

Bottle feeding for me. I HATED every second of nursing. I was miserable, DD was miserable. I was ALL for EBFing for as long as I could 1+year.. but it didn't work out for me. Washing the bottles is no big deal. She takes 5 bottles a day, I don't really consider that time consuming at all.

I agree completely, and I've done both. Ella was bottle & BF from the beginning, and fully weaned by 6 months. Erik was pretty much EBF for 11+ months.

Each has its advantages & disadvantages. BFing is easy and convenient most of the time but not always, and dressing to accommodate boob access can get tiring.

Bottles are convenient in public, but when its 6am and you know you can squeeze out another hour of sleep if you fed him quick, you can't beat BFing.
