Re: Moms that were induced...
i think its different for each person. When i was induced with DD i went in at 4, they did the bloodwork/paperwork, and started me on cervadil- that softens the cervix. After the first round is over, they put a second one in me, i was definitly contracting and they started pitocin- it was 14 hours start to finish for me
ETA: 1/2 hour of pushing, had epi too...

Re: Moms that were induced...
I checked in, they got me hooked up to monitors(worst part since now you can't move around) and they gave me the pictocin. I didn't need the cervdil since I was already softened. About three hours later my OB came in and broke my water. I progressed well from there, got my epi, and gave birth about 10 hours later after a half hour of pushing.
I think it was great!

Re: Moms that were induced...
Reader's Digest Version: I was induced with Pitocin too, got to 4cms about 13 hrs later, and stalled, then they called for a C section.
I put all the details up in my Birth Story if you'd like to read that! http://www.lifamilies.com/chat/topic-337762-1.html

Re: Moms that were induced...
abridged version
got the cervadil at 7pm, had it removed at 7am, pitocin was then started, pitocin was "amped up" at 9am and by 1:30pm, I was still only a fingertip dialated and having strong contractions, I wound up with a c-section and a 9 1/2 lb baby

Re: Moms that were induced...
i had to go in at 8 - i did not need cervigel so they hooked me up on the monitors, gave me the pitocin and about an hour later they broke my water. an hour after that DD was here!! it was very quick for me but everyone's body takes differently. i went in at 3&1/2 cm dialated also. i just need a little extra push to make DD arrive.
good luck!!!

Re: Moms that were induced...
Both of my kids flew out in 5 pushes! I had 2 very successful easy inductions. They only piece of advice I have is to get the epidural as soon as you are in pain because the Pitocin gets cranked and you go from little contractions to whoppers within minutes Good Luck!

Re: Moms that were induced...
I was induced with pitocin at around 4PM. It didn't do too much so I was up and walking around. A couple of hours later they broke my water and upped the pitocin. A few hours later I got the epidural and was progressing nicely. I started pushing around 2AM and DD arrived a bit after 3AM.

Re: Moms that were induced...
I was checked in at 8PM at night. I was 1/2CM dialated. I changed into a gown and laid on the bed. They strapped the fetal heartbeat monitor on my tummy and we went through all of the paperwork. The nurse put in the IV and inserted some medicine vaginally to start dialation. From that point on, it was a waiting game. The nurses kept going in and out of the room and checked my cervix every hour or so.
By 8AM the following morning, my water broke on its own. The contractions had been building in intensity all night. I gave birth at 6:09PM that evening. For more details, check my birth story! Good luck!

Re: Moms that were induced...
It is different each time! I agree with a previous poster who advocates getting the epidural as soon as you are uncomfortable!
I was induced at SNCH. Aside from the immediate 2 hrs after placing the Cervidil, I was able to walk around, etc. (When I was induced at Mercy previously, I was not.) That made a HUGE difference - see if you can do that! Even when they hooked me up to the Pitocin, I was mobile. DH and I played Scrabble, walked around, I used the toilet, etc. It was great.
However, my labor was not progressing at all! 26 hours later (and still only 3cm dilated!), they broke my water..... DD was out within 15 minutes!
I was really, really anxious about it, but it was a pleasant experience. Good luck!

Re: Moms that were induced...
Short version: Cervadil put in at 8 pm, taken out at 8am...pitocin started. Contractions started...pitocin increased around 2:00 after hours of contractions with no progress...6pm, still nothing after 20 hours of contractions, had a C-section
