Moms-to-be with hypothyroidism, please come in for a second...

Right before I got pregnant, I was bumped up to 175 of Synthroid. My TSH came back at 1.02, which is what my RE believes helped me get pregnant in the first place.

Now, less than 2 months later, I had it checked again and it's at 3.9. Chat Icon I'm freaking out, because I know what can happen if my TSH goes too high... Chat Icon

I had another round of BW done today, and should be hearing the results on Monday. What I wanted to know was, did you need to adjust your dosage early in your pregnancy? I remember reading that the baby really kinda "sucks" from your thyroid, but I'm on pins and needles until I can be bumped up.

I'm just a little nervous about it, I guess. Chat Icon

Re: Moms-to-be with hypothyroidism, please come in for a second...

Same happened with me. I tried for almost a year to get pg with this baby- #2. Even though my levels were good when I was ttc, I asked my Doctor if I could go from 125-150. I did, and within a month I got pg.

I got my thyroid tested in the very beginning of pg along with all of the routine blood work, and it was fine.

When I had the quad screen at 16 weeks, I requested a thyroid test again, and my levels were over 5!!

I am now on 137, and may have to go up to 150 next. My Primary Doctor is conservative, so he wants me to go up one dose at a time for 4 weeks at a time and then re-test.

With my 1st pregnancy, I was on 125 the entire time and never had to re- adjust the dose...

Just stay on top of it, always make sure your levels are good, so that there are no adverse effects on baby!Chat Icon

Good Luck

I was on .125 for 3 years prior to getting pregnant. As soon as I got pregnant, I saw my Endo MD and she did labs and my levels were fine. She said lets test again in 4 weeks. So during those 4 weeks I had such a rapid change in my TSH that I lost a HUGE patch of hair on the crown of my headChat Icon Chat Icon So I saw her again and she upped me to .150mcg and then we tested again every 4 weeks. I was only on .150 for a month and she brought me back down to .137 I just had labs done on Tues and I'm still good! And my patch of hair that I lost has grown back a lovely bleach-blonde color. Yeah, still wondering about that one myself.

ETA: They did warn me in the very beginning to stay on top of getting my levels checked because the TSH is responsible for much of the neurological development of the baby.

I was on .1 before I got pregnant and by the end of my preganacy was taking .175. They tested my blood every four weeks for the duration of my pregnancy. The first time my meds were upped was about 12 weeks into my pregancy. They were changed a total of 4 times. My DD was perfectly healthy. Just make sure you stay on top of it.Chat Icon

ok, first of all try not to freak out
stress is not good for us hypo girls!!

I am currently on 150 and I have heard it is very normal to need an increase during pregnancy

my sister has hashi also and was bumped from 125 to 150 when pregnant and now back down to 125

what my dr. suggested to me was to take my regular 150 everyday and once a week, also take one 75mcg pill

I saw my endo every 4-6 wks throughout my pregnancy just to be on top of it. I believe my dosage was upped twice. I just went the other day to see where I'm at now that baby is 7wks and the endo lowered my dosage. Pregnancy def does wacky things to your body! Chat Icon
