YES! only for #2 though. It was the best decision I made, I actually had some good sleep.

My milk comes in early and I have a large supply, so I was comfortable to do it with #2.

FWIW: #2 had jaundice too - even with the formula at night.

I did not have the nurses give DS a bottle at night. They brought him to me every 4 hours at night and I fed/atempted to feed (because we both didnt know what we were doing at the time) constantly throughout the day

Same here. I plan to do the same with my next DC. Yes it is exhausting but so worth it Chat Icon

No. I nursed him throughout the night. I was worried about nipple confusion and wanted to make sure I established a good supply so I put him to the breast at every opportunity. I was so nervous that giving a bottle would mess things up, so he didn't get one until about 2 months old.

Yes and no.
I did supplement with formula, but that was because my DC were very small and my ped wanted me to supplement until my milk came in.

However, I did have the nurses bring me DC during the night to BF so I could stimulate my milk to come in faster.

yes I cheated... I was soooo tired and irritable that the last night I was there i told them to keep him in the nursery and give him a bottle... that was the only time though and gotta say we never had any problems after that. I was worried that I made a wrong decision but when I realized we were ok and bfing kept working, I forgot all about that one night.. I also had a c section so I was there 4 nights and we did have 3 nights prior of only bm

with #1, I did not. She came to me for every feeding.

with #2, I had them give him a bottle for one of the night feedings.

Almost the same here, but the nurses brought the baby every three hours at night (12, 3 and 6). I had her for the entirety of the day also. No bottles.

Me too... no bottles...

DS was in the NICU and I was not allowed to be in contact with him the first 24 hours so the nurses have gave him formula during that time. When I began to BF, the nurses informed me he was not having enough wet diapers so they made me supplement with formula. The result was a nightmare....DS was having really bad latch/nipple confusion issues and it took 8 frustrating weeks for us to finally 'get it'.

Re: Moms who BF- did you have the nurses give the baby a bottle in the hospital?

Yes, for both of my DC.

At the hospital where I delivered, they encourage rooming in with the baby. So both of my kids were with me 24/7 except if I asked the nurse to keep them in the nursery.

My DD had a bottle from day 2 and took to it with no problems...she was able to switch back and forth between bottle and breast easily.

My DS also had a bottle on the 2nd day because it was obvious that he was really hungry and my milk was just starting to come in. But I think this contributed to his latching issues/refusal to BF. He realized that BF meant he had to work a little harder and I guess he wasn't willing. Chat Icon

I kept DD in the nursery both nights and they gave her formula. It didnt affect my milk coming in at all.

You can ask to supplement. I requested that DD was not to be supplemented so they didn't. I did pump and she got whatever I pumped when I couldn't get her to latch.

Re: Moms who BF- did you have the nurses give the baby a bottle in the hospital?

Only once...the nurses were bringing DD in every 2-3 hours to eat. But one feeding at 2 AM she was fussy and would not latch on..I tried for 30 minutes....I was getting upset because I thought she just didn't want my boob. So the Nurse came in...asked me if it was ok to give her a little bit of formula...and while i was HYSTERICALLY crying...I agreed. It was the only time and she latched on without a problem for the next feeding.

Re: Moms who BF- did you have the nurses give the baby a bottle in the hospital?

No. I even made a huge point that DS was not given any bottles. His little crib had a note on it (written by the nurses) not to give any bottles, that he would be BFd only.

DS dropped some weight. The PED was telling me that we might have to give him a bottle. In the end, I stood my ground, DS was still in the normal range of weight loss and started to gain back. My milk came in abundance 72 hours after birth.

Re: Moms who BF- did you have the nurses give the baby a bottle in the hospital?

No! I wanted EBF to work desperately! I had told the nurses I didn't want anything to interfere, they had a big red sign over DS's "holding bin" that sayd "NO Bottles, No Pacifiers, No Sugar Water"

The few drops of colostrum you make the first days are enough!

Its natural and normal for bf baby to develop a little bit of jaundice, don't let it freak you out. They will just monitor you for a few days, take this time to ask peds lot of questions about BF.
