Mom's who but their infant in the crib right away

I know it is still early but I have some questions. DS is 4 days old and I am not sure what to do about nighttime sleeping.

Did your infant sleep well in there? We are trying to put DS in the crib at night and last night he wouldn't sleep in it at all. He was swaddled but wouldn't fall asleep even though he fell asleep in my arms after I BF him. Is this normal?

Should I be using a sleep positioner too? Or music?

During the day he sleeps in the Infant to Toddler rocker. Should I use that at night too?

Thanks!

I put DS in his crib the first night home from the hospital. I tried to put him down while he was still slightly awake, we had a night light and soft lullaby music on the stereo in his room.

It was way harder on me than on him, but he now absolutely loves his crib and we've been very lucky about that.

Re: Mom's who but their infant in the crib right away

congrats on your Liam.. I have a Liam too!
I put Liam in the crib right away. The first night he had trouble but, we did find that the Ocean wonders aquarium music helped. Maybe putting him the crib during the day also would help. I found that he needed to be put down in the same spot each time to teach him that this is where he sleeps.

Was he asleep when you put him in the crib? I had to really rock him to sleep and then wait a while to make sure he was out before he would stay asleep in there.

Good Luck, it's early, it will get better. Chat Icon

Re: Mom's who but their infant in the crib right away

Congrats!! DD is 1 month old but has been using a bassinet next to our bed and also sleeping like a champ in the fisher price pink papasan seat! The music and vibration helped us out alot!.....My ped. said if the baby sleeps leave them there, even suggested trying the car seat.....Good luck!...You will see how quickly things fall into place. I remember being overwhelmed the first few days, now only a month later I feel like she's been here forever and that we have been working smoothly together always LOL

I put DD in her crib right away. I set up a rountine right away. I leave a night light on, swaddle her and play white noise. I've also always read her a bedtime book.

I've always put her down awake and she would just fall asleep. A sleep positioner might be a good idea to make him feel cozy and more secure.

We didn't put her in her crib. She sleeps in a co sleeper next to me. But, you can try sleeping YOURSELF with a receiving blanket for a few days so it has your scent and lay that down in the crib and put the baby on that so he can still smell your scent which might help!

Congrats

I put DD in the crib from day 1 and we had no problems at all. She was swaddled and we had a musical mobile above the crib and that was it. I did not use a sleep positioner.

DD has been in the crib from the beginning. I couldn't sleep with her in our room with all the little noises she makes. She has to be rocked to sleep every night. I'm insanely jealous of those moms who can just put their baby in awake & they just fall asleep. No way in our house unfortunately. It takes HOURS to get her to sleep some nights.

I just wanted to tell you that we just have a radio right by her crib that is set inbetween stations. She falls asleep to the static sound.

Do you just rock your DD and make sure she is really asleep and then put her in the crib?

I tried putting DS in the crib for a nap today with the rainforest music on and he cried for 30 min and then started screaming so I took him out.

I am going to try the swaddling and sleep positioner tonight. We shall see.

Just wanted to share that I tried many of your tips last night and they worked.

I swaddled, used the positioner and made sure he was asleep (I rocked him) and then put him down with some lullabye music on. I am so happy! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

You're having better luck than me!

We haven't been able to put her down to sleep in her crib since she's come home from the hospital. We're finding that she HATES laying flat on her back, and she HATES having her arms restrained in the swaddle me. (she likes to keep her arms up by her face)
She seemed to be napping well out on the couch during the day in the nook of the boppy, which kinda keeps her propped up. So last night we put the boppy in the crib and she finally slept for a good 5 hours straight! We're hoping that soon we can transition her from sleeping in the boppy, to a sleep positioner, and then hopefully just on her own in the crib. We'll see. Very frustrating.

He likes having his arms out too. But the swaddle me worked for night time. Maybe she needs some kind of incline in the crib. My friend had to use a wedge for her daughter in the crib. I know what you mean about the frustration.Chat Icon We are in this together. We will figure it out.

Jacob was in his crib from day 1. We swaddled him and used a sleep positioner. We also bought a white noise machine and put it on at night and when he would nap. I will tell you that he was colic so the first 3 months he really didnt sleep at night but I am glad that we had him in his crib right away so he was used to it.

Re: Mom's who but their infant in the crib right away

We put DD in her crib at 6 weeks..... when she started to sleep longer stretches... At first ,we started putting her in there for naps so she knew that the crib was a place for her to sleep... worked like a charm!

I dont rock her to sleep anymore.. I do rock her until she is sleepy.. but I make her self soothe in the crib (such a mean mom I am!!!) And she is great at it now... she just goes down in her crib when she starts to show signs of being tired for naps now too!!!
