Moms who EBF & starting cereals
Just curious when you started, or when do you plan to start with the cereals? How did your DC react to the cereals - rice, oatmeal, a/o barley?
Does it really help if you have a child who spits up excessively?

I started Charlotte on oatmeal cereal...and with the exception of 2 instances with rice cereal, never introduced any other types of cereal to her. It did help a bit with the spitting up...the start of solids (veg/fruit) really helped though.

Gracie was 6 months b4 I started (rice); it was my decision to start late. I'll probably start DS same time

We were given the go ahead at 4 months. At 5.5m we moved to veg/fruits.

I started rice cereal at 6 months. It was very binding so I eventually stopped giving it to DS. I give DS oatmeal, which is much better on his stomach. I never gave DS barley.
I didn't notice a difference in his spitting up right away. About a month after starting solids, DS was spitting up much less. I'm not sure whether it was due to solids or just his digestive system maturing.

I started DD at 4 months with rice cereal, but it was too binding, so I quickly transitioned to oatmeal, which helped at the time. A few weeks later, we started fruits and veggies, and then she really got backed up and now has solid poop! It is painful for her, and I have tried prunes and everything the doc suggested, but nothing has helped. She also spits up a lot more now that she is on solids. I think that she was not ready for solids and I should have waited till 6 months, but it is too late now that i have already started. She will be 6 months in less than 2 weeks.
