preemie moms - question about starting milk
When it was time for your child to start transitioning from formula to milk, did your ped want you to do it when they would be one using their corrected age, or actual age? DS will be one in November but was 10 weeks early and I don't think I want to start him on milk until he would have been one (January) had he gone full term, esp. since he has a potential milk protein allergy. Any thoughts?

Re: preemie moms - question about starting milk
DD was 8 weeks early and started milk at 1 year technically 10 mths old. She has hit all her milestones so the doctor said to try yobaby yougurt first then if she did ok try the whole milk.

Re: preemie moms - question about starting milk
I am not a preemie mom, but the 12 month rule is really kind of arbitrary. DC can be on milk as early as 9 months as long as their are getting their nutrients from food and not BM or formula!
And some people continue with formula/bm until 24 months

Re: preemie moms - question about starting milk
My twins were 5.5 weeks early and the Dr. said to start them on mile at the usual time...12 months. They will be one in 2 weeks.

Re: preemie moms - question about starting milk
I think we met somewhere in the middle. It was after after their 1st biirthday but before their "would've have been birthday." They did fine with the milk change. (just as a side: my twins were 25weekers) they had also been having yogurt and everything else before the milk switch. hth. good luck

Re: preemie moms - question about starting milk
DS has been slow to gain weight so we are still on a mix of formula and Pediasure after his first birthday. We see a GI doctor in addition to the pediatrician, and the pediatrician wants us to discuss it with him and possibly a feeding therapist. ETA: He was a month early and had IUGR so he was small for gestational age.

Re: preemie moms - question about starting milk
DD started milk when she was 12 months, she was 7 weeks early, so I guess that made her corrected age 10 months...she had no problems with the transition. She has hit most of her milestones regularly, so I was not concerned.
