How was it? Was it better than the first?

I am a little nervous about going in. The first time I labored for 17hrs so I didn't care if the took my dd out of my mouth, I was done. Now I'm going in knowing it is going to happen...any advice

Thanks!!!

Re: Mom's who had a c-section then had a scheduled c-section 2nd time around...

Sooooo much better for sched c. I had a crash C-section for DS1. I was put under and recovery sucked.
For DS2 I had a sched c. I loved that I had the date ready and my parents and IL's were there to watch DS1.
It was pretty relaxed. You go the day before for pre-op. Just get a blood test and then your hospital band with blood type info. No biggie.
Went about 2 hours before the time I was due to have the sched c and it flew by. Just changed, some tests, IV, talk to the nurses who were awesome, met anesthesiologist (make him/her your BFF and use them as much as possible... LOL), etc.
They will have you walk to to OR and then give you the spinal. You first get a needle to numb the area. Stung a brief moment then fine (and I'm the biggest babies with needles... was so scared and it was nothing). Didn't really feel the spinal, but just some pressure. They laid me down and the effects go fast. Couldn't feel below the waste, but wasn't a terrible feeling. B/c I was nervous I let the anesthesiologist know so he gave me some anti nausea meds in the IV. Worked great. Use them as much as possible. Don't be a hero. I did not want to get sick.
Just felt some tugging and pressure once in a while. Docs and nurses were great and calm. Before I knew it the baby was out and didn't even realize they were fixing me up bc I was paying too much attention to DS.
After I stayed in recovery for a while with the baby and DH. I was pretty much walking a bit by the night (I had a morning c).
Best thing to do is keep walking and take it easy. By the time I was out of the hospital motrine was enough for the pain.
Good luck!

I had an emergency section at 30 weeks with my twins. I had no time to worry about it and I was more concerned with how their health was going to be being that they were so early. But afterwards I had a fine recovery. Didn't do as much walking as I should have right away so I made sure to do more with my second one. MY second one was pretty much the same except I would say recovery was a little bit quicker.

I was more nervous for the 2nd, scheduled one. My first one happened so fast and I was so exhuasted by the time they decided to do the C-setion - I just wanted it done. I did have a quicker recovery with the second.

I was very nervous for my 2nd b/c I had a bad experience the first time around. The 2nd one was so much better! It was nice to be relaxed going in and not have everyone running around you in a panic. As a pp said the anesthesia person should be your best friend! Make sure you tell them what you are feeling and they give you different drugs through the IV to help you. Recovery was much better with the 2nd as well.

Good luck!

much easier than the first. not sure why, maybe I was able to mentally prepare?

csection and recovery were easier though I did have bleeding issues during the 2nd due to scar tissue. Almost needed a transfusion.

Re: Mom's who had a c-section then had a scheduled c-section 2nd time around...

Easier.

The epidural wore off sooner (so I was able to move my legs and get into a room). And I knew from my last experience that I needed lots of anti-nausea meds.

I was more relaxed.

Recovery at home was easier too because I was more willing to accpet help (my MIL stayed with us for 10 days and I slept at night while she got up with the baby and I was able to sleep during the day too)

Thanks for the advice!!! I am a little less anxious now...it seems as though the first on was the toughest and I just have to realize it won't be anything like that again!

Each of my c/s recoveries was worse than the previous. Maybe because the possibility of rest was less and less. I'm not telling you this for any reason other than so that you don't feel like there is something wrong with you if it is not easier.

My 2nd was definitely harder than my first... I could not rest as much bc I had a toddler at home that still needed my help and attention.

This was similar to my experience. With the first I didn't know what to expect, but I felt more than I should have and was nauseous during. With the second I was very anxious and nervous because I feared the same experience. It was not as bad as the first - and I recovered well and knew to ask for help!

For me, going into the C-Section was worse than the 1st. The 1st was an emergency C so everything was a rush and it's all a big blur. The second time around because i now knew what to expect i was a mess and just so nervous! After I had the spinal and DH was with me i was fine. The recovery for my second was better as far as the pain and being able to get around. They had me up and walking by that night and by the next evening i was able to get up on my own and walk around.

2nd scheduled c-section was a breeze. I was a little nervous/anxious that morning. But I wasn't tired from being in labor, I was completely alert during and after and the recovery was easier.

Easier. The pain of recovery I would say was the same but I knew how to deal with it better and took pain meds constantly(I was too stubborn the first time). Plus I didn't have to go through labor for 48hrs before.
