Spinoff to c-section is scheduled - plus question for Lovenox/Heparin mom's
I saw a number of people say second and planned sections are easier recoveries. What makes them easier? I am so TERRIFIED that my poor DD will be neglected b/c I can't move when I finally come home. I have no friends/family to help as I've mentioned previously and losing my job means a baby-nurse or sitter is totally out of the question. Dh will do the best he can, but he only gets 2 weeks vaca and can't take any unpaid time b/c we only have one income now. I can't take motrin after the baby is born b/c I will be back on Lovenox for a short time (but long enough that I will still be recovering). I remember when they removed that epidural and the catheter... I went to use the restroom and ended up doubled over in horrible pain. Percaset (sp?) was my friend, but doc didn't give me any after I was discharged - I was told to take tylenol which is a joke.
This next part is for Lovenox/Heparin mom's more specifically. I was chatting with my doc about this whole section thing and the doc said that there is the possibility of doing a VBAC, but I'd have to stay on Heparin and not be induced. I didn't even think this was something they'd do. I know it can be reversed, but I just don't know what to do now. I know a VBAC is out for the induction, but not sure I want to be on Heparin indefinitely or during labor/delivery. Not even sure trying a VBAC is worth it. With DD they took me off the Hep 2 days before the scheduled induction... this time it would be 2 days before the scheduled c-section, but now there's this other option. My whole thing is making this easy on me and my first born. I would like to be out of the hospital faster - hence a VBAC sounds great. However, I ended up spending an extra day in the hospital with DD b/c the induction took so long only to not work out. So then I thought I'd just get the section over with and this way even though it's 4 horrible days, at least you know when you are going in and when you are leaving.

Re: Spinoff to c-section is scheduled - plus question for Lovenox/Heparin mom's
I am on lovenox and having a repeat c/s. My docs wouldn't consider a VBAC and honestly, I don't even want to deal with a VBAC as horrible as that sounds.
I know it is going to be hard- but I was pretty much getting around and on no pain meds, not even tylenol, when I got out of the hospital with DD so I think I can do that again.

I am so glad that you posted this because I am having the the same thoughts you are about vbac vs a repeat c/s. While I am not on the meds you mentioned, I really wonder if the vbac is worth it, b/c I am completely afraid of trying for a vbac and then having another c/s since the complications from that are much worse. My obgyn is leaving the decision to me, but as of right now DD feels breech b/c I am getting kicked in the cervix just like DS did at this point in time. If she ends up breech like DS or transverse I think I would almost be happier b/c then I would not feel guilty for scheduling a repeat c/s.

Re: Spinoff to c-section is scheduled - plus question for Lovenox/Heparin mom's
I don't know if this helps, but I was on heparin and went in to labor on my own. I just didn't take the shot while i was in labor (but I had a really long labor). Different docs have different opinions on this. Some want an induction so they can make sure the heparin is out of your system. However, i know induction is not an option for you. But, from what I understand, heparin is not a problem for the epi, or at least it is out of your system faster. Why don't you call the anesthesioligist department at your hospital and ask about this?

i am not sure what lovenex or heprin is but with that said, there is a 50/50 chance a vbac would be successful and its higher if you had a vaginal birth then a C and are trying for a vbac.
if you can take percs after your C section, inform your dr that is what you want when you go home.
let him know tylenol does NOTHING and you are in pain, even if you don't wind up using them.
not all dr. will do vbacs bc the majority of them wind up being an emergency C section, and then the recovery time would be that much more.
good luck with your decision.

Re: Spinoff to c-section is scheduled - plus question for Lovenox/Heparin mom's
I was allowed to take Motrin while on Lovenox after giving birth to ds But I know I have different clotting factors then you so that is prob why. Luck of the draw I guess
As for section vs vbac, I would stay on the hep and try for the vbac. I am scared to have a section. I don;t want to be away from ds any longer then necessary. And with the swine flu precautions I would def try the vbac. I can't imagine not seeing my ds for almost a week.
With the hep even if you just took the shot they can counteract it. I was just talking with my peri yesterday. He said they will switch me 34-36 weeks depending on the condition of the cervix. As long as you are getting nst and bpp at least once a week I would wait out for the labor to avoid the section. If the placenta starts to deteriorate obviously the choice is made and you need the section. Good luck
