mom's who had scheduled c-section
i had an emergency c the first time. this time i am scheduled to go in at 10am. can you tell me what your experience was like? how long were you in the hospital before you went into surgery? afterwards were you up for visitors? i just have no clue since my first one wasn't planned and it was late at night. i also had a lot of complications. i'm sure everyone has a different experience but i'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
My c-section was scheduled for 3:45pm. I was to be at the hospital 2 hours before the surgery--so 1:45p. At that time I checked in, went into triage and changed into my gown and then got hooked up to an IV and fetal monitors. I kept getting pushed back for other emergency sections which was pure torture!!! In the end, DD was born at 5:30pm. I felt bad for my parents and my sister who were downstairs in the waiting room having no clue what was happening--my DH was NOT about to leave me! My parents and sister came to see me in recovery and I was fine--all psyched up from the birth. My ILs and DD arrived to see the baby, but not to see me. It was too late really and I didn't get into my room until after 9pm.
I was no fan of my c-sections, but let me tell you...the scheduled was about a million times better!!! I am actually not petrified to do it again (if and when)...yet

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
C-section was 1:30pm, I had to be at the hospital for 11am. They basically set me up in my room and let me get into the hospital gown, put my things away and have some family in there to keep me calm. About an hour before they started my IV line and what not. Around 1:15 they walked me into the OR, got my epidural going and prepped me, etc. We were underway right on time and Ava was born 45 minutes later I was in recovery for about 90 minutes, maybe 2 hours and since it was just me and ONE other person in all of the labor and delivery unit, they let my family come and see me and Ava in recovery. I had 30 something visitors that night! I was more than up for it because I was just so darn excited. At that point, I was still on so many drugs that I didn't know the difference All in all, I had a very pleasant experience with my c-section and having a lot of visitors was really a great way to pass the time. Especially because I couldn't get out of bed until the next morning.

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
how long were you in the hospital before you went into surgery?
Scheduled at 1pm. Got bumped to 3pm. 2 emergency c-sections came ahead of me and I had to wait. Since you are scheduled you might have to wait for emergency c-sections since those ladies are in labor and you are not.
afterwards were you up for visitors?
Delivered on Friday afternoon. Refused to see anyone until Sunday. I had informed DH and everybody ahead of time. It was the best decision. I had major pains the next day. I also cannot take Percocet so that did not help. I was in recovery for 7 hours (not anticipated) but got very sick from the anesthesia. Did not go to my room until after 11pm. So again the next day, I was trying to recoup from all of this.

My experience was very similar. Scheduled for 8 am on a Sunday, had to be there at 6 am. I got pushed back a few minutes. It was all smooth sailing. I just had my mom & MIL come to the hospital during the procedure so they got to come in to recovery & see me, DH & baby almost immediately.

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
Everything was the same as my first emergency c-section with the exception that this time I was the bumpee not the bumper. You will have to wait for emergency c-sections that come in.

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
I too had an emergency c/s with my firstborn. My second c/s was scheduled for 8am, DD was born at 9:16. I did find my recovery to be SO MUCH EASIER (less pain and less bleeding) with the scheduled c/s than with the first one. I did have visitors that day as with the first one (they were both morning deliveries). The other nice difference for me was that I was able to get up the same day and walking was not nearly as painful as the first time.
Good luck!

My scheduled c-section was RIGHT before Erin's, same day, same hospital (we ended up next to each other in recovery, and had rooms next to each other as wel )
I was scheduled for 1pm, was told to arrive 2 hrs before. My set up was the same as Erin's, including the "bump" due to an emergency c/s-which there is no way to avoid that.
DS was born at 2:34- DH was with me in recovery until I got my room shortly after 7. My FIL, MIL and 2 SILs were all waiting to see me. I only saw DS right after he was born, then he stayed in the nursery overnight b/c I was sick (throwing up).

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
I believe my c section was scheduled for 1pm at Winthrop. We had to be at the hospital by 10. They had us fill out forms and before I knew it I had an iv in me waiting to be wheeled in. I think they wheeled me in to the or around 12:15. Then they did the epidural and stuff. Emma was delivered at 1:11pm. I had a bad reaction to the anastesia and was sick from the time I gave birth until about 7pm. They had my family see me for about 5 minutes but would not even give me a room until I was not sick anymore so I didnlt really have a choice when it came to visitors that day.

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
i was scheduled for a 7:30 c-section and had to be at the hospital 2 hours prior. They gave me two bags of iv fluid and a tube of blood. Then they walked me into the OR..gave me the epidural and my DD was born at 8:20am. After that and the hour of recovery I did not feel up to having visitors, too exhausted and pretty much sore the whole 4 days I was in there. I had some people come by and of course my parents and my DH's family.

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
Was scheduled for 10am, had to be in at 8am. I got pushed back to 12 due to an emergency c before me; DS was born at 12:17 so all in all, it was really great. Even with the delay the whole process took less than 4.5 hours.

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
I was there for 2 1/2 hours before they took me in. we had to wait because they had an emergency right before me. I was up for visitors afterwards due to the adrenaline of the day. I started feeling exhausted a few hours later and, by then, everyone had left for the day.

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
My c-section was scheduled for 8AM. I was told to come in at 6AM. They hooked me up to the fetal monitor, shaved me a bit, put in the cathether and I was ready at exactly 8. DS was born at 8:37. Everything was right on schedule.
I then went to recovery for about 2 hours and then to my room. Since it was the morning, my family pretty much came right away. I would have liked most of the first day to myself. I was pretty exhausted.

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
My c-section was scheduled for 11am...I had to be at the hospital by 9am.
We arrived and checked in. I was takend into the "prep" room, and hooked up to a fetal monitor and IV. I was there for a while....apparently my Dr. had an emergency c-section, so I ended up delayed. My Dr. came in to check on me and then the anesthesiologist appeared. He went through everything that was going to happen and asked if I had any questions - by this point they'd outfitted DH with scrubs, so he was all set...they gave me this terrible stuff to neutralize my stomach acid...it was terrible, but it quashed my heartburn, so I dealt with it!
By the time they wheeled me to surgery, it was about noon...they took me in to get the spinal done...I was nervious about that, and they had a little trouble getting it in, so that upped my blood pressure a bit. But once they did, I started numbing and I calmed down. They laid me down and prepped me for the surgery (catheter was inserted, belly was sterlized)...then the Dr. came in and got ready...THEN they finally let DH in from the hallway.
DD was born at 1:16pm and I think I was back in recovery by 2:30 or so...and I was there for a while....till about 4:30 I think...that's how long it took for me to start to get feeling in my legs again...then they wheeled me to the nursery to get DD and then back to my room...I was settled in my room a little after 5. My parents were there right at that time...I didn't mind them being there, but DH's family showed up later that evening...that was a little overwhelming, as I was still a bit off from the anesthesia and I was exhausted and in pain! Plus I still had the catheter in, so there was no getting up, even if I wanted to!
The next morning they removed the catheter and I was able to get up out of bed...I was in pain, but actually much more receptive to visitors that day...
All in all, it was a good experience, calm and controlled - no chaos or unexpected surprises...

Re: mom's who had scheduled c-section
I had my c-section scheduled at 9am. We got to the hospital at 7am. My mom came with us and my sister met us there around 8. I went into the OR at 9am.
By 9:30 my DD was born and I was holding her about 10 minutes later. They rolled me out of the OR around 10, and I was in the recovery room with my family. I waited for a bed by the window, so I was there for a few hours and up in the room around 2.
