Moms who make their own food ....Question
What do you store it in? The only ones I have seen are the green lidded storage trays from BRU and they dont seem to be that great. I would think you would need like 4-6 of them to make a decent amount, and at $9.99 for 2...well thats a lot. And they got bad reviews online.
What do you use and do you reccomend them?
TIA

Re: Moms who make their own food ....Question
For now, I'm using the storage containers you mentiohned and they're working pretty well. But since I'm just trying out new things with Lily to see what she likes and doesn't like, I'm not making huge amounts. I would think you could use regular ice cube trays and cover them with saran wrap for larger quantities. It would work pretty much the same and you can buy those at the dollar store for a lot less money.

Re: Moms who make their own food ....Question
i think i have the one's you are referring to. i have 4, because i got 2 sets for a shower gift.
i like them. they hold a decent amount. i put 2 tablespoons in each cube. then when they are finished freezing, i pop them out and put the cubes in good quality freezer bags, labeled with date and item. then i can use the trays to make the next food. it's much easier to take the cubes out of the bag when you need them as opposed to trying to pop them out of the tray. also, i like that they have those lids as opposed to saran wrap, because i worry other foods' odors will get in them or that they might spill in my full freezer, but i'm sure ice cube trays will work.
as far as making enough, two tablespoons is a decent size cube. i usually give dc two cubes each (4 tablespoons). if i have more puree then trays, which only happened twice i put 4 tablespoons in covered bowls for the next day in the fridge and i put the rest in 4T sizes in little tupperwares or little glass covered bowls in the freezer.
hth!! p.s. this is all from that ruth yaron book, i take no credit for the brilliant organization that she taught me!!!!

Re: Moms who make their own food ....Question
I use the trays but I also use the smallest glad containers for his food. I put about 2 servings in and then freeze. They hold up really well. I take one out then night before and let it thaw in the refrigerator - then split the servings.

Exactly!!
No need to go out and buy more paraphenalia that will only be used for a short time. Regular old ice cube trays are fine. If one wants to get fancy Bed Bath and Beyond sell's XOXO ones with their own slide on cover. My MOH was thinking WAY ahead and suggested I register for them for my bridal shower. So that's what we use.

Re: Moms who make their own food ....Question
I have those same trays as you Donna... the "fresh baby" ones. I let the food freeze thoroughly and then I pop out the cubes into a freezer ziplock bag, label it by what it is, day I made it and the expiration date (6 weeks from the day I made it) and into the freezer they go

Re: Moms who make their own food ....Question
I found these and think I will use them...
The thing is that how much is 2 oz's compared to a jar of food? Noah can finish a full jar of Stage 2 food at each meal.
ETA- Cause Im just curious, Im sure I have teh info somewhere....How long can everything stay frozen in ziplocs? Is it different times for different foods?

Ok... my sister gave me these and IMO - I don't like using them. I like using the fresh baby ice cube trays MUCH better. I think it's all personal preference, but I just wanted to share my opinion Also, if you're making big batches, they take up a lot of room (at least in my freezer they do!)

I have these although I haven't used them in the freezer. I pack these with the foods we are using in the next few days from the time I make that batch. I do love giving them to daycare...perfect size for Lucas.

yep
I still have a lot of it, but I looked at the ingredients on the "regular" cans and freaked , so I only saved the organic stuff and I gave the rest away.
