Mom's with kids in Daycare...
When does the horrible, guilt, pit in the stomach feeling go away?!?!?
DS goes 2 days a week and everytime I drop him off I sob in my car...
My mother watched DS everyday from the time he was 3 months and I LOVED knowing he was with her while I was at work. Now that she is watching my daughter, I felt it would be too much with both of them everyday and I figured socially it would be good for him. He will be with my mother the other days. My mother also feels horrible but feels it's good for him as well since it's only 2 days a week. This morning I called her crying and my father was ready to go get him,LOL!
I can't help but feel horrible on the days he is in daycare~ The girls in the center are wonderful and they give him tons of attention and love to give him hugs..but I fee like he thinks I am abandoning him when I drop him off...
Does it ever get better?

Re: Mom's with kids in Daycare...
I felt that way when my DD started 3 days a week at only 3 months old and it took a long time for me to feel better because she was sooo young. HOwever once she was old enough to start interacting/playing with the other children I saw she liked it. Now at 20 months she asks to go!!!
So for you, you will probably feel better once you see him playing/interacting with the other kids. Soon he'll be asking you to go and talking to you about his "friends"

It's gets better trust me. Be happy you had your Mom when he was an infant. Ithink it is worse when they are babies.

awww - you are doing the right thing for Ant, your mom, and your DD. I'm sure it must be so hard but it will def. get easier as time goes on. And, Ant - is going to love socializing with all the other kids!
Not that I have any idea what I'm talking about yet - but just wanted to come on and give you

Re: Mom's with kids in Daycare...
That feeling will fade but it hasnt gone away from me yet. DS started out going 2x's a week then I enrolled him FT. Socially he is thriving there. All the kids/parents/teachers know DS and love him, he goes to the park, the firehouse, etc and really does have a great time. Watching him interact and having a good time makes me feel better and on the days when he cries when I drop him off it breaks my heart!!

Thanks girls...when I first drop him off he says "mommy,no go please" and it breaks my heart. He will cry and then I call after an hour and he is fine. He does ask for mommy and daddy throughout the day and then he starts asking for Nonna and Nonno . The director at daycare called to ask me who Nonna and Nonno were

Re: Mom's with kids in Daycare...
A quality day care center can give things to your son that your mom never can: fun learning activities and socializing with other kids, both of which are extremely important for his development!
My son is in day care full time and while the guilt never really fully disappears, it got much much better when I saw how extremely beneficial day care is for your son! He started at 2 and his vocabulary and social skills skyrocketed!
You are doing the right thing!

Re: Mom's with kids in Daycare...
I don't think a mother's guilt ever goes away. I used to feel guilty going to work leaving her with my mom. I think every mother wants to be with their child. He's older now and probably loves the socialization and interaction with other adults. I think you have to focus on the positives of his situation.

Re: Mom's with kids in Daycare...
I don't feel guilty and I never have, my son has loved daycare from day 1, everyday they tell me how great he is , how funny he is, and when I drop him off in the morning, he toddles off quite happily (most days) and looks for his friends. If you think about it positively, how much fun he is having, how he is learning lots, making lots of new friends and learning about building relationships...that should make it easier!!
