Are fabric markers lead free? how about Sharpies? Question contains some helpful info about daycare labelling
So, I am getting tried of ironing labels on Dylan's clothes. I did find a great shortcut, though. I can use the flat iron that I have for hairstyling. As long as the plates do not touch the iron on, this trick works great!!!!
The Sharpie website says that it is not to be used on clothing because it can bleed or turn the garment yellow near the marking. I have labelled some things with Sharpies and I have not had this problem. I make sure that the ink is dry before the fabric touches anything.
I bought a Marvy fabric marker today and I cannot find info about whether it contains lead.
I looked up information on the label that is on most markers that says "conforms to ASTM D-4236." That is a safety standard and it means that the marker does not contain anything that is known to the maunfacturer to contain a health hazard. The standard does not specifically say that it means that a marker has to be lead free.
I'll continue with the iron ons if I have to but I feel like it's time consuming and there are other things I'd rather do!!!!
Anyone have more info?
ETA: There was a website that said that all markers made in the US are now lead free--but that was not a site I'd consider reliable (it was more like someone's blog). Buuuttt I found out Sharpies are made in China.
