Moms with Mirena IUD come on in!
I'm pretty sure I am going to go this route for bc since I'm worse than a forgetful teenager with the pill and can't stand the hormones. So, anyone have any feedback, good or bad on getting and IUD? I'm not completely ready to say I am done having children, pretty sure, but not ready to commit to anything permanent, so I'm thinking this is the way to go. Please share your experience. Thank you!

Re: Moms with Mirena IUD come on in!
I have the paraguard IUD, it has no hormones. If you don't want the pill because of the hormones, then you probably don't want the Mirena IUD either. Putting it in was a little uncomfortable, it was a pinch and then some discomfort, and then it was done. I've had it in for about 5 months and have had no issues at all. It is good for 10 years, but if I decide I want more kids, then I can just get it taken out. Its great never having to think about any kind of BC.

I don't have it but one of the reasons I didn't get it was that my OB advised against it if I didn't want hormones. The cooper one without the hormones btw I was told gives you a much heavier AF.
If you do a search there are several people on Mirena though you could try FMing them and asking about their experiences.

Re: Moms with Mirena IUD come on in!
I have Mirena since the birth of my DS#2. Prior to my pregnancies, I was always on the pill. I love having an IUD vs the pill. I plan to get it removed next year for TTC for baby#3.
I've had no side effects from Mirena. I still get a period but it is very quick and light. However I now it works differently for everyone.
I choose Mirena over Paraguard due to the recommendation of my doctor based on the success rate and feedback from her other patients. I plan to have more children and hope not to have any difficulty conceiving due to Mirena. I most likely will keep it in for another year.
Mirena has hormones (no estrogen)which are localized to the uterus and is good for 5 years. Paraguard is hormone free and lasts 10 years.

Pretty much what she said....The only difference is that I hardly get a period, maybe every 3 months or so and it's very light almost like spotting.

Re: Moms with Mirena IUD come on in!
I have had the Mirena for 1 year. Now, I love it!
In the begainning I hated it. My first 3-4 periods seemed to last weeks instead of 4-7 days I had terrible cramps during periods. I also had many mood swings and was even depressed in the begainning. I was about to get it taken out because I hated it sooo much, But DH begged me to wait 2 more months before to see if it would get better and luckily I think my body finally adjusted to it because those side effects have seemed to vanish. Now my periods are so light that I stopped using tampons and only need to wear a pad one day a month and pantyliners for a few days.
also getting it put in didn't hurt at all. I started lightly bleeding from insertion and bled for over a month

I'm on my second one and I love it. The first couple months are an adjustment with bleeding but after that you barely get a period.

I have the paraguard IUD. This is my second one. I got my first one after my second child 7 years ago...I loved it, but my periods were a little crampier. I got it removed last year to start ttc again and 2 weeks later I was pregnant with my now 8 1/2 month old dd. I have had my current IUD for about 7 months and have had no issues with it at all.
