Home Daycare - Questions to Ask

We're going to go check out an Home Daycare tonight. This person came highly recommended by a friend of mine.

What questions should I ask her??

Also...she said we would go over rates when we go over tonight...but what's a typical rate for a Home daycare?

Re: Home Daycare

CPR/First Aid Certification
Tax Deductible?
What happens in case she gets sick?
Do you get an unpaid vacation?
Do you pay for sick days?
Does she take a standard vacation every year? How much notice does she give?
Does she have any pets?
Professional and personal recommendations
What is included? What do you need to bring daily/weekly/etc?
How many kids? How many adults?

I'm sure there are a million more!

I made a spinoff for center-based daycare... but I also wanted to ask about what a typical day would look like.... and where the kids nap/how long....

Thank you!

I'm sure there are some over-lapping questions for both. Chat Icon. I'll check out your spinoff.

Re: Home Daycare - Questions to Ask

- does she have baby gear- infant seat, swing, PNP, playmats, toys.
- will she keep track of our DC's day- naps, feedings, fussy times- I give my daycare lady a sheet that she fills out everyday- it's a great way to see what happens during the day and she's more than hapy to fill it out.
- how often will she be paid- weekly, monthly, etc. Most likely it will be weekly.

and all the one the PP listed- those are all great!

And yes I went over rates with her- I think the rate depends on how many other kids she'll be watching, how long she'll be watching your DC, your area, etc.

Re: Home Daycare - Questions to Ask

I interviewed home providers when I was looking. What made me personally uncomfortable was that a few of them would be driving during the day with my DS - I did not like that. So if you are not comfortable with that, make sure to ask if they are home all day or do they drive anywhere.

Are they licensed by NYS?
Ask to see the license.
If they will follow your schedule for the baby.
How many children are in their care?
How many staff persons there are?
What is their training/education/background?
Is anyone else in the house during the day besides caregivers?

Re: Home Daycare - Questions to Ask

Crashing

I'm a licensed home provider

First ask to see the license, or look to see if its posted (its NYS law for it to be visible).

Ask if she is CPR certified?
Ages of children?
Discipline Policy?
Ask about payment policies
Vacation Time?

Ask if she is M.A.T. trained, if she isn't, she is not allowed to administer any type of medication to your child.

Re: Home Daycare - Questions to Ask

Thank you ladies.

I'll let you know how it goes. My original care is up in the air, so I've had to start looking late in the game for other care for DS. Chat Icon I'm hoping all is good with this Home Daycare.
