more newborn questions
When you give your baby a bath what do you use to wash them? Do you use the Johnson's baby products? Do you use this baby soap on their faces too? I notice DD is getting little pimples on her face. I want to make sure I am cleaning her the right way.
Also, last night DD went almost 7 hours without a feeding. She ate at 8:45 and fell asleep at 10:30. She didn't eat again until after 3 am, and this was only because I woke her to eat. Should I have just allowed her to sleep? She basically slept through the entire feeding. Dh thinks at night I should allow her to sleep and just feed her when she wakes wanting it. Opinions?

Re: more newborn questions
I use the johnsons baby wash also...but i've tried Gerber too and my DS still has those little pimples. I think they are normal and not caused by the soap but I'm not really sure
If it were me I would of let DS sleep and not have woken him up for a feeding. Not sure what is right though!!

Re: more newborn questions
Our instructions from the nurse at the hospital was to use the johnson's soap on the body and head, but only water on their faces.
Is your DC breastfed or formula fed?

Re: more newborn questions
For the first two weeks I used only water on DS's face and then put a little of the J&J baby wash into the water - mixed it up and used a washcloth to clean him. Once we started putting him in the tub I used more baby wash and even the Aveno baby wash without a problem...I even pour it right on him sometimes (just avoid the eyes)
I used to wake him but learned very quickly to just leave him alone. If he slept I just waited for him to wake and then made sure to feed him right away. My ped had told me to not let him go for more than 5 hours but I started letting him sleep and it was easier on all of us...especially me I just made sure to be prepared to feed him right away...and he definitely let me know he was hungry.

Re: more newborn questions
I used J&J products for the first month or so and then switched to California Baby products. Their products are much more gentle and DSs haven't had any reactions to any of their products.
I would def. let her sleep overnight. I always kept DSs on a schedule for the daytime but overnight, if they didn't wake, I felt like they obviously didn't need it.

Re: more newborn questions
I dont use the soap on their face. I dont think that its the soap that causes the pimples BUT more like it causes them to be more sensitive to the things that could cause the pimples....I have done this with all my girls and have given this advice to others. Its always worked out...
By the time they are 2 months old they can handle the soap better.

Re: more newborn questions
I used Aveeno soap. The pimples happen in the early weeks b/c the baby has some hormone passed from the mom during pregnancy. It goes away.
My advice is if the baby is sleeping, dont wake him/her up--they will know if they are hungry (although i think it is different if u are BF'ing)

Re: more newborn questions
I use J&J. Pimples are normal. DS went through a 2 week period at around 6 weeks or so where they were awful. Anytime I'd go near his face with even plain water he would breakout really bad. I just used aquaphor per the ped's rec. and it was fine. His face is still sensitive now at 14 weeks but nothing like it was back then. I just make sure I only use plain water and no soap since that seems to be the irritant. And still use aquaphor on occassion.
I don't recall having an issue where DS didn't wake for a feeding...he liked to eat and wasn't missing a beat in that department. But just like others said I think the rule may be different depending on FF or BF. Knowing how much sleep we weren't getting in the early days I'd be inclined to say do not wake them and get your sleep.
Good luck!

Re: more newborn questions
I use J&J Head to Toe baby wash. I do exactly what Ang said I use a soapy washcloth on his face.
I don't wake to feed him. The first week or so I did but then stopped.

Re: more newborn questions
I use Johnson & Johnson products on DD. I will say we did not have a big issue with the white bumps on her face. I still only use water on a washcloth on her face and after I clean her ears is when I use the washcloth to soap her cheeks and her neck (I can't believe how icky her neck can get).
I never woke DD to feed, she is always pretty much on schedule. DH would pick her up with the slightest noise at night to feed her and it took a little while to convince him she was okay going longer during the night without feeding.

Re: more newborn questions
My ped said as long as they eat enough during the day there is no need to wake them to feed them. He said people that tell you otherwise are jealous that you are able to sleep.
