More questions about dogs
It's been almost 72 hours since we found him, and we have called every shelter, vet, pet shop, etc. and posted/checked signs/notices on every possible physical and Internet locale, so at this point, we are both really thinking that no one is even looking for him.
Can you all help me out with a few things though? I had dogs when I was younger, but I'm very used to cats right now, and I know dogs are a whole other ballgame.
1. Dodger (his name as of last night) is very well trained, except for a couple of things....I'm pretty sure he's a baby (9 months to a year is my best guess)...does anyone have any tips on training for the following: -He pulls A LOT when I take him for a walk. He is practically walking me at some points. I don't want him to do that. -He barks and cries every time someone walks by. Honestly, I would like him to bark at strangers for protection, but I don't want him going nuts every time a leaf blows by the window lol
Case in point: A car drove by about a minute ago, and he is still crying a bit.
2. I'd really like to take Dodger for some nice, long walks. However, he is a strong dog, and like I said, he pulls. Can anyone recommend a great harness?
Thank you for reading all of this!

Re: More questions about dogs
I'm so sad that he might be so apprehensive of people because he was abused I hope that isn't the case. Have you brought him to see a vet yet? They could probably give you a good estimate of his age and check to make sure nothing is wrong.
I've heard that if a dog pulls, stop walking and pull the leash back. Wait until he stops and then continue walking.

Animal abusers make me so sick. Luckily, he's very, very loving to me, DH, and my parents (when he met them, we gave them big hugs to show him that it was ok). He met FIL for a few minutes, and he barked at first, but then he was ok with him, so if he was abused, at least he is starting to trust some people again.
Nope-no vet yet (aside from to check for a microchip). DH is calling the vet today to make an appointment. We want to get him neutered when we bring him because he is a bit *too* affectionate with DH at night, so we figured we would wait a couple of days in case his owners turn up so we aren't returning them their dog in a different physical state lol
Thank you for the tip! I will do that when I take him out next.

Re: More questions about dogs
There is a good lead (that looks like a muzzle but it's a lead) by Premier pet. I will help find a pic. Not sure how great it works. My dogs are small so we use the No PULL harness from Premier. Although I dont think they make that for large dogs.
His whimpering and such, sounds like he is waiting for someone to come. My dog acts like that when he thinks someone is at the door (mailman, UPS, etc).
I dont have real tips since I never was successful in stopping my dog from being so interested in everyone walking by. LOL

He's waiting for my DH. The abominable snowman could stumble by, and he wouldn't care once DH is home. His focus totally shifts come 6 p.m.
Thank you for the tips!!!
