For me, if I really want an understanding of where I think each candidate is going to go; I have been researching their voting records and bills they support. I think it’s a good indication of what I can expect from each candidate in the future and I am basing my vote on a lot of that research I have been doing
Do you honestly really need to do that? You haven't seen what Hochul has done to this state?
I think we all know what we can "expect" from Hochul. She's made it quite clear where she stands on the issues listed above.
What issues listed above? I can look at Zeldin's record on SALT and his vote on the Jobs Act that capped our property taxes dedcutions. Zeldin also voted the Suozzi bill that aimed to remove SALT. He voted nay to gas price gouging. He just voted nay on the Access to Contraception bill along with his stated views on abortion. He voted dismantle ACA He also voted against protecting a women's right to travel across state lines to seek an abortion. He voted nay on Assault Weapons Ban and I would like to see continued reform on assault weapons as that is an important issue to me. I have issue with him being election denier and trying to get votes in other state discarded. I am look at the leglistaltion he did sponsor that is important to me...gang acts, Quantum infrastructure bill, Veteran's Family needs act to name a couple.
Both candidates have stated that they would review cashless bail in NYS and how it's been implemented. While Hochul has been governor for the last 14 months - the LIE has been paved out by me. There are improvements with 347. There have been some improvements made to the assess of assault weapons. She has supported the infrastructure bill that would bring funds to NYS for some desperately needed projects. She has allocated money for a Clean Drinking Water bill statewide. I am opposed to the congestion pricing for NYC. Not crazy about a Bills stadium and who that was handed out. So for me, there are pros and cons with both candidates.
My main concern -she won't say what she plans to do with mandating that vaccine for children to attend school. He has. I couldn't care less about the LIE being paved as comps to forcing that vaccine on my child if I"m being honest. And honestly, I'm sure he, or anyone else, would have gotten it paved too. She just happened to be in office
The paving was ONLY done for votes. That is not hard to see. Anything she has done recently is for votes. I think paving is the LEAST of our worries honestly.
NO politician is perfect and will keep their promises but seeing what she has done to the city and ask Zeldin WHY he is so concerned about crime is a no brainer to me.
What has Hochul done to NYC? DeBlasio has more to do with what NYC is going through then any other politician, IMO. And this is an honest question - what is Zeldin proposing that will affect NYC? I haven't been able to find a plan to conquers that because I do agree that NYC has some serious problems. Are you referring to cashless bail which was implemented in 2019? I question what any governor may be able to do with legislation that has already been passed into law because the veto opportunity is gone. One thing I do hate is marijuana and the ease at which it can be consumed publicly.
I didn't get to see that debate yet but I know he mentioned the crime in the city and she asked him why does he care. What kind of question is that? You can't even go into the subways anymore without fear of being pushed or stabbed and these people get a slap on the wrist and let go right away.
The marijuana doesn't bother me in the least, except the smell which I detest. I feel it should be legal.
You should watch the debate. I don't think you may have the entire context.
“It is a joke to talk about a crime policy that doesn’t include doing something about illegal guns,” - I think this is the quote you are referring to.
ETA: Zeldin came across well in the debate. I think you would enjoy it.
Pretty sure his point was that there are more crimes not involving guns that she is not taking care of.
I agree but the way you stated it above gave the impression that Hochul was asking that because she did not care about crime in NYC. Cashless bail isn't to let those out that are accused of committing violent crimes. Cashless bail should not be afforded to them. In regard to the bail reform, I think the reclassifying of crimes to be classified as non-violent crimes is a real issue. NYS has gone through lessening crimes and status to appear to be safer for years and years. I do believe that needs to be addressed.
I quite literally can’t believe there is anyone left in NYC who will defend bail reform. It’s not working. Period. What do you base that statement on? When you look at recidivism from 2019 to 2020 there’s only one percent difference. I think the increased crime and reporting of crime in the city has to do with Covid and another extreme lack of services. People that have little means go to the places it’s easy to get to which would be large cities like New York City. I don’t think that a revision of cashless bail is going to solve a crime problem. I think it would be great if cashless bail reform did dramatically drop crime rates. I just don’t think that’s realistic or will stand the problem
It goes much deeper than cashless bail. DAs are to blame and it is all tied together in one giant toxic package with the governor. I take absolutely every statistic that is pushed forward even nominally supporting bail reform with a giant boulder of salt. Hopefully it has become more apparent to the masses how easily numbers can be manipulated. And, as someone who has to commute every week into the cesspool that is NYC i am willing to take a change on Zeldin in the hopes that BR is reversed.

Re: most important issues?
I think I’ve beaten this topic to death but I did want to leave with a little irony, if you will. I have personally met with Lee Zeldin on numerous occasions including a fundraiser for him when he was running for Congress. He seems like a genuinely nice guy but that is besides the point. He has readily available to his constituents and has been so responsive when I’ve reached out for various reasons. I do think he would make a good governor. I’m just having a hard time reconciling some of his beliefs with my beliefs

Re: most important issues?
I try to take whether a politician votes yes or no on a bill with a huge grain of salt. More often than not there are ridiculous and costly things buried in the bills which is why they vote no, but the media only publicizes the hot button issue to make them look bad.

Re: most important issues?
I cant vote for anyone that voted against abortion rights and its unfortunate because i am not a fan of her either.
I dont care if Zeldin claims he cant change abortion rights. Actions mean more than words and he has already proven that he is against abortion rights.
I hate political parties but Between Trump and the ridiculous abortion laws being passed and/or backed by republicans makes me question if i will ever vote for a Republican again!
What I wish is for are actual candidates that don't pick party sides and could truly be neutral and not vote just based on party lines and had a shot of actually winning any election! But that does not exist.
This while country is corrupt both democratic and republicans. when voting all it is just trying to choose less of the 2 evils!

Same. I am pro choice. But I cannot respect anyone who wants a person to have the right to choose abortion but NOT the right to reject a vaccine that doesnt even work and may give you a heart problem.
And a woman jogging this morning in Manhattan was raped, beaten and robbed. Just another day in the city of zero consequences for criminals. This affects us more than abortion, which will remain legal in NY.
ETA: the rape suspect had 18 priors. 18. Including two for rape. Yet he is walking around free. While Kathy does nothing except give millions of our money to her homettown football team. Thanks Kathy!

Shut up you conspiracy theorist! According to our WONDERFUL unelected governor crime is just a conspiracy in NYC Please focus on other issues like injecting your child with a vaccine that DOESN"T WORK so they can attend school. I wonder if it was the governor's daughter who was raped and beaten this morning if she'd change her tune. I'm sorry but she is a worse piece of shit than Cuomo and that's saying a lot. I pray for change next week.

This argument goes both ways. I can not understand how a person who is fighting and pro choice for no vaccines so they can be in charge of their own body is not pro choice when it comes to abortion. Both sides are hypocritical.
Crime is a huge issue, I agree.

Couldn’t agree with u more! I just cannot understand why people can be fine with mandates but then also be fine with pro choice, or the other way around. These issues should be up to the individual, PERIOD. U should be able to decide what’s best for u regardless of the issue.

Well the old excuse was- "but you refusing the Covid vaccine is about more than YOUR body because you could give Covid to someone else if you are unvaxed. You have to do it for the good of society!" That didn't age well though.... So now what's the reasoning?
