Most people don't surprise me, but some do...
As most of you know, I am leaving my job next Wednesday because I found another one. When I gave my notice, my bosses ( a husband and wife) were disappointed, but they displayed their disappointment by being very nasty, taking it very personally. Their son also works at the company and him and I were always friends. He hasn't spoken to me since I gave my notice.
Just a little background, I have been at this company for over 6 years and I have been an outstanding employee. I never called in sick (except when I couldn't leave my bed!) and I was always on time, stayed late if necessary. I went over and above.
Normally, when people leave the company, the front office all goes out to dinner. They also usually have a little party in the office with everyone.
Now, after 6 years, no matter how upset they are that I am leaving, you would think they would do something - well, think again. They are doing nothing .
So I just walked into the warehouse and I have always been really nice to all the guys back there (when a lot of the other people in our office aren't - especially my bosses)) and one of them asked me when I was leaving and asked if we were having a party....I said I didn't we were and he said "we had better be!"
Not a lot of people surprise me. My first surprise was when my bosses, the people that had me over for holidays, etc, totally turned on me. My second was when my co-workers (bosses son etc) also turned on me. And my third was this guy in the back who is a hard worker and a nice guy who just showed me how big his heart is by thinking of me that way.

I'm sorry. Some people and offices just can't be professional. I would leave with my head high, though, and still thank them for the experience when you do leave. After all...hey, you don't need them. THEY need you and you're leaving, and they are just upset and taking it the wrong way.

Their loss sweetheart. They must be really bitter about you leaving. Im leaving my job too. I dont expect anything from them but a "see ya, nice to know ya". The people in my office dont surprise me either.

Ask the guys in the warehouse to go out for a drink with you on your last day and don't invite the bosses. It stinks that they are taking this so personally.

I guess that truly tells you that you are better off leaving after all.

haha that's not a bad idea! I was actually thinking of buying pizza for lunch for all the guys on my last day. I have always enjoyed working with them and they are nice guys.

Way to go! Make your own party on your last day! Go out with class by treating those hard workers & thanking them.

I think buying the guys lunch is an awesome idea. Amazing how people you have worked with for six years can't be civil about you leaving.
