Besides the fact the seat is facing the wrong way, what's to stop that entire baby seat from flying out of the car. AT least with a roof, the distance is limited (godforbid)....
On top of that - isn't she afraid that the baby will get a SUNBURN????????

she needs child rearing classes, i know she is a new mom, but come on. its like she has never seen a baby before. and she is having another one.
but on the other hand, i kind of agree that the paprazzi is just looking for ways to get her.

I agree to a certain degree, but the rear-facing seat is the LAW!! She is going to have bigger problems than the paparazzi (sp) if she's not careful.
I think she lacks some common sense, which is what makes her an easy target sometimes.

I find the whole thing disturbing.
The law says that a child must be 20lbs. AND 12 months old in order to be forward facing. Period. Even if your kid is 6 months old and already weighs 25 lbs. you have to wait to turn the seat around until their first birthday. Similarly if your kid is a year old but only weighs 18 lbs., you have to keep them in a rear-facing seat until they hit the 20-lb. mark.
That baby is slumping down like that because the carseat doesn't have a foam head support insert to hold his head up and because the seat is not properly angled for an INFANT. One short stop and his neck would snap. Brit-Brit is an idiot who thinks she is above the law or else is just too stupid/egocentric to bother to look into what the law is.
This child is 8 months old and already has been driven around town on her lap in the driver's seat, dropped out of his damn highchair and now this. And those are only the things that are making headlines. Who knows how many other "careless mistakes" are being made out of the general public's line of sight. I know parents aren't perfect but it doesn't even look like she cares enough to try.

I think this is a little harsh - ALL new mothers make mistakes - Give her a break ! - Granted, hers are a bit extreme, but really, if someone followed any parents' EVERY single move all day, every day - They'd absolutely find something to snap a picture at and put in a magazine for all of the world to critique ! -

This is totally untrue.....We had this same thread going on in the parenting board...
I have every contraption possible(to keep my son positioned)... my carseat is installed correctly (at least according to the fire dept) and my sons head still does this time to time when he falls asleep!!!!
Ill admitt she has been careless.... and she is def. not up for the mother of the year award in my book.... HOWEVER- the highchair thing- was all on the NANNY (it happened while Sean was in the nannys care- while she was trying to get him out) and well- while the law states the child needs to remain rear facing until 1 yr AND 20lbs- there are many parents (Not, I) some maybe even on this board.... who turn there child around when he/she meets one of the requirements.... Shes really not doing (with the exception of the paparazzi event) anything that alot of mothers do. He's fed, clothed, loved and not beaten or burned- which is more than I can say for alot of children in this world...

My thoughts exactly. Also, I would be concerned about something flying in the car and hittng the baby.

I have to say that I agree. The baby on the lap was terrible but this seems like a normal, day to day mom mistake. I feel bad for her, thrust in this limelight and criticized for everything, big or small.

I agree-- I feel kinda bad for her.. she is under a microscope and every little thing she does is analyzed and sparks news stories. I guess her mistakes are shedding light on what NOT to do-- and they have all these baby experts on the news, etc.
I do wonder where her mother is in all of this--- I certainly expect my mom to help me out and mitigate the amount of mistakes I make when I am a new mom-- In all reality this is a celebrity with a huge support system-- if the baby was really in danger-- I think someone else would step in.

Actually the law in CA is not that they have to be rear facing but that they must be restrained in a car seat.
There are only 10 states that require a child to be in a rear-facing car seat, and in two of those states it is not required if the infant is more than 20 lbs. Britney's son Sean weighs over 20 lbs."
As for the slumping head thing - happens to all babies. There are tons of contraptions to try to get their head up & very few work.
I do think she should be beaten for driving with him in her lap.
I have to say, I would hate to be famous. Imagine having cameras on you every minute to broadcast your parenting mistakes or your weight gain for signs of pregnancy. Definitely not a path I would choose.
