Would anyone who has lost their moms be interested in meeting and talking sometime? It's hard to find other girls in this situation who truly understand. I'm not a frequent poster but I would like to become more involved in these boards.
That would be a great idea. I know there was a GTG idea thrown around for awhile on LIW. Don't know if anything ever took place, though.

Re: Motherless Mother's Days
This was very sweet and made me tear up. This is my first Mother's Day as a Mother. I lost my Mom 12 years ago and being preggo was hard and now that I have my DD, it's brings back memories. I hope to have the relationship with my daughter that I had with my Mom. It's hard to lose your Mother, I sometimes sit and stare at my daughter and tear up, I don't want to ever be without her. I hope and pray I am here to see her have children.
Thanks

I remember that too - but I don't think anything did ever happen with it.

I am in on this idea too. I think this was an idea a long time ago, and I never heard anything about it either. count me in.

Re: Motherless Mother's Days
I think it would be great for us all- and I am in desperate need of something like this. I'm just not sure how to organize it. Any suggestions?

Re: Motherless Mother's Days
Thanks - my mother died of cancer 10 years ago on 1/1/06. I always take her actual day of death harder than Mothers day, but it is still difficult.
What is hardest is having to 'celebrate' with the MIL.. how do you guys deal with that? In the back of my brain I feel that my husband and his mother just think it is time for me to get over it.. of course, they dont have any idea what it's like.
I try to do the total avoidance thing, but my birthday is May 8 (I was actually born on mothers day that year..) so they usually combine the day into a birthday/mothers day event so I cant blow it off....

I so hear you on this. I lost my mom back in 99' and I wonder if DH's family thinks I should "just get over it" as well. I always "find something else to do" on Mother's Day. I do feel bad sometimes, but in the end it is my loss and how I choose to deal with it.

I feel like this frequently as well. Our kids will only know his mom. Although it is a wonderful thing for both his mom and our kids, I can't help but to feel jealous that my mom was robbed of the "grandma" role.

Thanks...although my mom hasn't passed she isn't a part of my life by her choice and with my daughter being here this year, it's hitting me harder than I thought... Thank God for my Dad!
Im in the same position...except my dad passed away a few years ago.
I appreciate this post...I dread these summer months with these special sundays which I usually just spend alone.

Re: Motherless Mother's Days
I am in N. Bellmore. i am willing to meet in the middle too. I get so upset when I see grandmas with there grandkids. My future kids will not have any grandparents on either side, I feel so jipped for them. My MIL just died out of nowhere this past December, she had a massive stroke in her sleep. My poor Dh found her. I have an aunt and uncle who live a mile away, but it will never replace grandparents. I sometimes think when I have kids who will come to help me, who will be fawning over them etc. I feel so sad. and cheated.

I feel the same way. Just rereading this post puts me in tears. I miss my mom so much. It is still so raw since it is not even 2 months since she passed.

I get upset about this also- and my poor sister works at a pre-school- when the mothers come for a speical event- and bring the grandmothers- my sister leaves work in tears
I give her credit- I could not see that everyday
let's figure out this GTG- I think we could all use it
