Moulding & base

I want to add moulding and base for all the rooms in the house, is this something we can do ourselves? Are the materials expensive?

TIA!

Re: Moulding & base

we spent about $250 for the base mouldings we used in all the bedrooms. We have yet to put up the crown mouldings. I can only imagine what that's going to run! Chat Icon $$$
my DH installed them himself. at first i was a little nervous b/c he never did it before, but once he got the hang of it, he did great!! Chat Icon

Re: Moulding & base

just looked at the my pics of the house, we have base, so I am just going to add the crown moulding, and also a chair rail in the dining room...
it doesn't look too complicated, but we are not very handy people, so I am nervous!

The real difficulty with molding is the corner cuts, but other then that it isn't all that hard according to DH. As far as crown molding, again, it's the corner cuts that make it really hard to install but they make these things to put in the corners now, not sure what they are called though, but that makes putting up crown molding a lot easier.

my husband did the molding in our apartment and it looks great. but my dh is a carpenter, so he does stuff like this everyday. if your dh is not handy with the saw, i would find someone who is because i know the corners can get hairy. good luck!!!

I would buy ectra pieces and try it yourself - I think you can buy corner pieces to save the cutting there.....

Re: Moulding & base

DH and I have done it in all the rooms. it isn't hard and the finishing nailer wasn't very expenisve. we did a wide base moulding and added a small cove moulding at the bottom of that. i like caulking it with phenoseal.
