movement monitors?? (BTDT moms come in)

i registered for the angel care movement monitor.. you know the ones that you put under their mattress & if your LO stops breathing, an alarm sounds

no one got it for is... DH thinks im nuts for wanting to buy it... figured i'd throw it out here to see if any BTDT moms really recommend them

if yes, which brand?

TIA!

Good question - i am wondering the same thing. I know my one friend swears by the Angel Care one but I'm not sure if it's totally necessary?!?!?!?

I want one of these so badly! My cousin had one and said that the alarm went off all the time and she eventually got rid of it because it made her nuts. My husband thinks it's totally unnecessary (and he's a pediatric resident), but I think we'll get it because he knows how crazy I am. It is sometimes easier for him just to appease me, ha.

Re: movement monitors?? (BTDT moms come in)

Definitely get the angelcare monitor! My DS slept in his crib from day 1 and I was able to relax and get some rest myself knowing the alarm would go off god forbid he stopped breathing. Without this monitor i would have spent a lot more time worrying and checking on him. I am using it again for the twins. I never had any false alarms until he was about 6 months old and began moving far off the pad. When that time comes you can switch it to audio only.

We didn't get it for DS. I knew I would be cosleeping. And did indeed cosleep until he was 7.5 months old. By the time he moved into his crib I didn't think it would be beneficial since he was rolling all over and could possibly set off many false alarms.

i'm new to this too, but it's one of the #1 things that i want off of my registry. the peace of mind you can have from knowing your baby is breathing without having to look at a monitor or hover over him/her is worth buying it.

Check out the Baby Vsense BRU sells it now too. It has two pads so you add the extra one as the baby gets bigger and starts moving around. I've had it on for 3 years its gone off a few times but not that much to be a nuisance and not sure if they were false alarms or not. but definately great for piece of mind

I didn't use one. I didn't even use a video monitor. Used only sound monitor (and still do).

Re: movement monitors?? (BTDT moms come in)

We actually got it as a gift and returned it. I knew I wanted DD in our room for the first few months (it ended up being 5 months) so we didn't see the need for it. We realized we'd rather have a video monitor, we love being able to see her esp now that she's older.

You will not regret it!
It is honestly the BEST baby item we have ever used.
And it seems that everyone who doesn't recommend it hasn't used it....

I wanted to keep my room my space. No babies allowed! LOL. This monitor made it possible.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a must have! It detects if the baby stops breathing and has saved my nephews life 2x.
It also was a huge piece of mind knowing that you wouldn't sleep through your baby not breathing.

I would 100% rather the Angelcare monitor over the video monitor any day.

My dd is 10 months and it went off the other night - she was totally pushed up against the side of the crib with her face burried in the bumpers. She was fine, the monitor just couldnt detect her breathing but how long would she have been like that with just a video monitor that we need to actually look at to see if there was a problem?

Re: movement monitors?? (BTDT moms come in)

We didn't need it. DS slept in the bassinet in our room next to our bed for 3 months. When we moved him into his own room/crib we have the video monitor. I like being able to see every noice/move he makes. My friend had one and it does accidently go off from time to time if the baby moves away from it. It gave her a panic attack for no reason.

Re: movement monitors?? (BTDT moms come in)

I used the angelcare monitor and I loved it. I am paranoid and if I didn't have it, I would have been checking to see if DS was breathing all night long.

We did have a couple of false alarms (less than 5). But we adjusted the sensitivity and it was fine. When he got older we shut off the movement sensor and used it as a regular monitor.

Edited to add: Even when he was in our room if he stopped breathing how would we know?
