MTV cutting cast members
They cancelled Cory's baby special and Taylor out of Teen Mom now completely for her 8 year old comments.
Now Dee from the challenge was also no longer invited back to be on MTV because she made an ill joke about saying black lives mattered since she lost her virginity to a black guy.
I get these people are wrong! I am 100% for black lives matter and don't think the comments should be swept under the rug... but for one joke to get kicked off. Lately, she is thee best female competitor on that show.... this is so disappointing.
And I really wanted to see that baby special last night...

It is all getting ridiculous. HBO has cut Gone with the Wind. Paramount cancelled Cops and Live PD is on hiatus.
What are we allowed to watch anymore? Am I not allowed to see reruns of Archie Bunker because he was a racist?

What were Dee’s comments that were so offensive? This is what she said...
“IDK why some of you think I’m anti-BLM. I’ve been saying that since the day I lost my virginity.”
I must be missing something, how can that be offensive?

I thought it was obviously a joke, and wouldn't take it offensively. People were saying it's rude to discuss black lives matter like that, as a joke I guess. I have no idea. I think this is a big loss for MTV.

Lol is this a joke? Gone with the wind is a theatrical performance and is fiction. It’s not a history text book. It’s not a commentary on how the racism was wrong, it glorifies the racism.
Yes, major content providers should censor racist content because it serves no purpose other than to perpetuate the false narrative that has existed for 400+ years.
No one is legally banning gone with the wind from existing, hbo is choosing to portray a better and more accurate series of content that doesn’t contribute to persistent racism. If you want to go to the library and watch gone with the wind as an example of part of the problem then go ahead. No one is burning books here. HBO is attempting to be more responsible.
Agree there should be more diverse hiring but if you think that is the only thing that needs to change, it’s time for self reflection. Yes this is a small change but every baby step adds up. We’ve essentially taken very few steps forward towards equality since 1865. We need to start somewhere. It’s time for all of us (me too) to evaluate how we can contribute and where we’ve dropped The ball in our own lives and communities.

HBO Max plans to return the film “with a discussion of its historical context and a denouncement of those very depictions”. It will, however, be presented as originally created, the network said, “because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed.”
And go ahead and challenge me on GWTW. I’ve seen it over 100 times. The only thing that bothers me is that Hattie McDaniel was not “acceptable” to the Oscar ceremony— and she won.

No it wasn't a joke. I didn't mean history as in a history textbook.... I meant cultural history as in a movie that released when it did... Just like the book huckleberry finn... which people wanted to be censored. Then meanwhile any movie that has a bad comment about Jewish people, or the book mein kampf should be out of existence too for continuing antisemitism.
You can't ERASE the past. It's impossible. You can only correct from it by moving FORWARD.
Which is why they should have continued to show they Cory and Taylor special --- showed how she is choosing to raise a black baby and a black stepdaughter in this climate. This would have been a valuable person to follow more than anyone else. To see how she's grown and what she is doing to make right and live in a biracial family. That would be progress. Not just cancelling it.

Dee's comments were basically posting that it didn't matter that George Floyd died because people die every day. Since this was said right in the middle of all this turmoil I absolutely agree with firing her this season.
As far as the Teen Mom, if it was said 8 years ago that is just ridiculous. You can't hold people responsible for every single thing they say years before. People grow and people change.
I was watching a show the other night and it was asked what is a white person suppose to do if they say or do something wrong. The answer was apologize and learn to do better. If that is the answer then stop digging up things from the past.

Unfortunately, the opposite seems to be happening.
Hartley sawyer was fired from a CW show he joined in 2016 for racist and mysoginistic comments he made in 2012, way before the show was on tv. He apologized, shown he's a changed man, developed deep relationships with women of color and someone brought up his tweets and just like that he was gone.
while i know many will disagree with me, there is such a thing as trying to be too PC and over-correcting.

Well look at all the backlash that happened to Roseanne. Tailor's tweets were worse than Roseanne and all of a sudden MTV cares about something said 8 years ago. People need to realize what they say on social media will come back to haunt them and be prepared to deal with the backlash. No one wants to hear excuses about things said in poor test and no one cares how long ago it was...

The reason I think the Taylor situation is BS is because the network already addressed her tweets a year ago on one of their shows. Why not fire her then or take her off the show? She discussed it with the black mother of her step daughter. She is now raising a bi racial child with a biracial man. Why not showcase this in the special? Why not highlight some progress?
Similar to what another poster said, white people are asking how to change and this is an example of someone changing or opening their eyes with growth. It just seems hypocritical to me when it comes to this particular story. It makes these firing and cancellations look like a witch hunt and not trying to make actual change for the BLM initiative. It’s just a way for the networks to cover their asses and say.. “look look, we care”
