The reason I think the Taylor situation is BS is because the network already addressed her tweets a year ago on one of their shows. Why not fire her then or take her off the show? She discussed it with the black mother of her step daughter. She is now raising a bi racial child with a biracial man. Why not showcase this in the special? Why not highlight some progress?

Similar to what another poster said, white people are asking how to change and this is an example of someone changing or opening their eyes with growth. It just seems hypocritical to me when it comes to this particular story. It makes these firing and cancellations look like a witch hunt and not trying to make actual change for the BLM initiative. It’s just a way for the networks to cover their asses and say.. “look look, we care”

exactly and they didn't fire every single person who has ever done anything wrong. Bananas, Camilla, Jordan, Laurel, etc. I feel like all of these people have made racist comments in the past.

They cancelled Cory's baby special and Taylor out of Teen Mom now completely for her 8 year old comments.

Now Dee from the challenge was also no longer invited back to be on MTV because she made an ill joke about saying black lives mattered since she lost her virginity to a black guy.

I get these people are wrong! I am 100% for black lives matter and don't think the comments should be swept under the rug... but for one joke to get kicked off. Lately, she is thee best female competitor on that show.... this is so disappointing.

And I really wanted to see that baby special last night...

I really wanted to see the special too. I went back and when I realized it was all said a long time ago and I remembered they addressed it on Teen Mom I was like why now?? How many times does she have to apologize and relive what she did. I did hear Cory say he will post the episode on his youtube and it would be better than the episode MTV would air. As for Dee I read that it was a bunch of tweets to Bailey and Swaggy or something like that. Since that was more recent and during this time I can understand her being fired. She honestly does not seem liked that much this season.

It is all getting ridiculous. HBO has cut Gone with the Wind. Paramount cancelled Cops and Live PD is on hiatus.
What are we allowed to watch anymore? Am I not allowed to see reruns of Archie Bunker because he was a racist?
It is am sickening to me now.

Because racism shouldn't be funny. People should not be getting paychecks while making racist comments and then trying to claim they aren't racist. Yes you are. You said you what said. People aren't stupid. People show you who they are. And if they us they are uneducated racists, they don't deserve airtime and money.

No, I am not very young. I am sick and tired of seeing vapid influencers and reality TV stars getting bloated paychecks for doing what exactly? Then crying that they get fired for being racists?

Nope didn't say that but "older" people are usually not as offended as the younger generation as they have heard and seen everything. Were these things right? Most likely not but no one really picked at things like they do now.
Even Aunt Jemima is getting pulled. It is all just getting ridiculous.

History is history and should never be taken away so we can learn from it. The "younger" generation wants to get rid of everything that was bad.

I'm probably one of the oldest people on here and agree with everyone who thinks it is totally justifiable to remove things or people that "we" once thought were funny or were accepted as "normal." We learn and grow. We are not removing things from history books, but from commercialism and profit on the backs of minorities. It is not ridiculous to remove a racist symbol from a box of pancake mix. We have to change. We have made significant changes in the past - when I was born, a woman could not have a credit card in her own name, much less get a mortgage. Is it ridiculous that that has changed? Airlines advertised with stewardesses depicted as sex objects. Is it ridiculous that that has changed? Not to mention that there was a time when women couldn't vote or sit on juries. I am CERTAIN that many people thought it was "ridiculous" to make those changes as well. But if we don't move forward in the face of oppression and prejudice, then we truly are doomed to repeat history

Thank you for your assumption that I am uneducated and ill informed. I know the difference between the life of the SPOKESPERSON who played to role of Aunt Jemima and the CHARACTER the image portrayed. Apparently you don't. Yes, the real person, Nancy Green, was very accomplished, especially given the times she lived in. The character she portrayed, Aunt Jemima, is a stereotypical and racist depiction of a Black American woman in the time of slavery. So, eliminating an image that was intended to portray a Civil War era "mammy" is one more small step in the right direction.

Oh please - getting rid of racist symbols is NOT "getting rid of history." It doesn't work that way. There are millions of sources of history out there for anyone who wants to read them. But even more importantly, there are millions of people who need no reminder of racism and its effects because they live them every day.

Ridding our society of racist symbols is literally the definition of learning from it which you say is so important. It's about doing better and correcting errors.

Read your last sentence again. Slowly. You are clearly implying that there is something wrong with getting rid of things that are bad. Do you realize how absurd that sounds?

Yes, not everything is life is all good and fluffy. Taking down statues is ridiculous IMO. They wanted to take down the William Floyd statue. Again, it is history no matter how it offends someone.

Its history but statues of traitors to our nation don't deserve places of honor - they deserve to be in a museum where they can be shared with context.

Germany doesn't have any statues of Hitler. No one will forget that history though.

What exactly is a statue accomplishing?

Funny no one has had a problem with them for many, many years. Now we are all animals who believe we should take it upon ourselves to destroy them because we are offended.
How about (not you in general) we find a way to put them in a museum then. Put our energy towards that, not violence and destruction.

MTV cutting cast members

If you watched the Challenge last night they put something up about the firing of Dee and then it seemed like they edited her out of the whole show. She was on the tribunal and you did not see her once. It's like they went back after what she did and totally got rid of her.

You sound like you are very young.

What does this even mean? It sounds awfully condescending. Not to mention you're implying that there is something wrong with thinking racism isn't funny.

Not all history needs to be glorified. We don't need statues to remember Hitler, Stalin, etc.

I won't continue to go back and forth with you on this because you are not going to change your mind anytime soon. Here are some anti racism resources if you ever decide you would like to learn more.

If you watched the Challenge last night they put something up about the firing of Dee and then it seemed like they edited her out of the whole show. She was on the tribunal and you did not see her once. It's like they went back after what she did and totally got rid of her.

Yes the episode before this one was so confusing and only 38 minutes long. They aired the original episode, a full 60 minutes, in Canada. Apparently, it was all Dee focused and after editing all of her scenes out, it knocked out half the episode and most of the context. Very upsetting. This episode was better but they really made it like she didn't exist at all in the episode. It's a bit strange.

Do you know the story of Aunt Jemima? The real person?
No one cares about any back stories and history, just that they are offended.

Yes because people have turned away from buying these products because they were offended? I highly doubt it.
This is not towards you but the entire thing as it is ridiculous.

Could you please explain why this is “ridiculous”? And how do you know that “people” - at least some - are NOT offended by this? What can’t we learn and grow? Do away with things that no longer serve a purpose and ARE offensive to some? Why is that a bad thing?

If none of this happened in the last month, do you honestly think all these measures would be taken to get these items off the shelves or changed?
Why weren't they before a month ago?

I thought the woman in the pic was the person that created the syrup recipe?
