my baby has another ear infection

I knew last night something wasn't right. This morning was ok but still he was a little off. Took his temp 100.1 and I just knew. He is only 3 days off the last antibiotic, I guess it didn't fully clear him.

So I called the PED and asked for the covering to check his ear BOTH infected. We have an ENT appt this month.

I cannot believe it. I wonder if the ENT will suggest Tubes. HE just cannot get a break in his little life. Chat Icon

I am sure he his. I was so deading that but at this point anything that makes him better is what we are going to do. The PED talked about another 3 shot antibiotic treatment but it is very painful, you do it 3 days in a row and there is no guarantee.
DH and I opted to see what the ENT says

Re: my baby has another ear infection

Sorry to hear that he is suffering. My DS had chronic ear infections for months. I kept trying the antibiotics because I was deathly petrified of him getting the tubes. But ultimately, the ENT convinced me that there was no other way, otherwise his speech would be delayed. We got the tubes and honestly, the anticipation of the surgery was much worse than the reality, which was very quick. It has been 3 months and, knock on wood, my son's ears have been clear since and he is so much happier. Best of luck to you.

My DD also has had chronic ear infections. She pretty much had back to back ear infections from August until May. We went for 2 opinions from ENT's and they both told me the same thing. Ear infections peak at 18 - 24 so since my DD is already chronic (and is only 18 months NOW) she will have another tough winter. They both said the amount of antibotics she's had to endure and will have to endure is more dangerous than the surgery.

So we will be doing the tubes shortly after I give birth to my DS later this week.

Hope he feels better soonChat Icon

ITA with you! 100%.

Poor little boy...I would totally be on my way to the ENT also. Especially when it gets to the point where the strongest antibiotics aren't helping. I feel for him. And you know I feel for you too. I'm wishing, hoping and praying that he gets some relief soon. My DS is 8 plus mos!!!!!

No way we would survive much longer with all these antibiotics
i mean this is his 7th ear infection (although i think this last one is just a continuation)!!!

DD was 10 months when we saw the first ENT and they wouldn't clear her for the procedure even though she already had SEVERAL infections at that point. Now that she's 18 months and has over 12+ back to back infections and tried Clydimacian (sp?) they finally approved it. Every doctor is different - my ped felt she had an antibiotic resistant strain and therefore the tubes wouldn't work. He was right, however she still has fluid - so tubes are next.

Go with what you feel is right for your DS!!!

Re: my baby has another ear infection

it def. does depend on the ENT, there are two babies as DS's daycare who are younger than my DS (he is 10 months) who have aleady had it done. For us they said hat they would do it around 11-12 months.

Re: my baby has another ear infection

Did you do the 3 shots?

I was told that was a last resort option

no, never heard of it (but that doesn't mean muchChat Icon )

For my ped the last resort was the clindmycian - which is supposed to treat an antibotic resistant strain. DD would be on a new antibotic within days of finishing the previous one.

She hasn't had one since the clindmycian over a month ago, but like I said she still has fluid which is a breeding ground for another infection.

honestly, I would be too and insist they do the tubes. 7 ear infections on top of difficulty clearing them is too much on our boy. Chat Icon

i don't think we tried that one. Since this was the first time it seems that they didn't clear after a round of antibiotics

But he is taking Omnicef now..one dose a day Chat Icon

Have they had him on augmentin? I was under the impression from my ped. that they do that before they do shots. Either way, enough is enough!

Augmentin was the only one that actually worked (albeit temporarily) on DD. Omnicef and Amoxicilan did nothing!!!
