But he is taking Omnicef now..one dose a day Chat Icon

Have they had him on augmentin? I was under the impression from my ped. that they do that before they do shots. Either way, enough is enough!

yup
and another one (i now forget the name)

I could have started the shots today but she said it is sooo painful and you have to do it 3 days straight. And there is no guarantee that it will even work

i couldn't put him through that it there wasn't a VERY good chance it would work. I think i would rather wait and see what the ent says before those shots

is Omnicef bad?

I don't think it's any worse than any other antibotic - it just didn't work for DD. Everyone reacts differently to antibotics.

Augmentin was the only one that actually worked (albeit temporarily) on DD. Omnicef and Amoxicilan did nothing!!!

great Chat Icon

he just did the amoxicilan...and that did nothing this time

why would the do Omnicef? It is, what i was told, to be a good dose too Chat Icon

Re: my baby has another ear infection

And sorry for the more questions but...

DO ENT's prefer NOT to do the surgery? Am i going there for them to tell me i am going to wait? Or try more antibiotics?

haha, one day the 3 of us need to get together and discuss ear infections...clearly we're all very experiencedChat Icon Unfortunately!

Anyway, here is how I understand it from my ped. They start with amoxicillin (although by now my ped knows to go past that since it never works). The next is omnicef. DS has been on this too. Didn't work for him either. They like to use omnicef because it is one dose a day and not as bad as augmentin on their belly. So when that doesn't work they go to augmentin. Then shots. Charly, I remember you talking about the clindamycin a few months ago. I forgot to ask my ped. about that.

This is exactly the path we took (minus the shots).

Clindamycin is only used if they believe you have an antibotic resistant strain. Since DD stopped responding to the Augmentin he felt that was the right course to take. It's not for everyone and is to be used on a case by case basis. Clindamycin is VERY strong and hard on their tummies. It smells awful and tastes even more awful. It can have some pretty bad side effects (which thankfully my DD did not have.) It worked great to clear all the mucous and infection, but didn't clear the fluid.

So although it was a necessary step for my DD since we could NOT get rid of her infection, it wasn't the "total" cure. She will need to also get tubes.

ETA: I find that ENT's typically DO the tubes. My ped wouldn't sign off on it. My ped feels the ENT's "over" use the tubes.

Remember my DD had back to back infections for 8 - 9 monthsChat Icon

hmmmmmmmmm maybe this is the stuff that i was told to get flavored with grape because it tastes BAD.

Maybe i did try it.

Either way it did clear him. I know because when he got a virus a month ago he was clear.
I would have SWORN it was another ear infection but nope! This is when he went the longest without one.

WHY WHY WHY did this ped put him on omnicefChat Icon
